406 Clutch and Gearbox

Post by Pob »

Hi all,

Is there any difference between a Turbo and a 2.0 gearbox? I was wondering what difference's if any between the two regarding clutch plate/flywheel diameter.

Many Thanks,
Dan

Gear ratios. Each box is geared to match the engine output, put the wrong box on and you'll kill the performance

ratios between petrol engines should be broadly similar. a turbo engine will produce much more tourque tho so might well be beefed up and have a larger stronger clutch. also since the diff is included with the box you have the overall gear ratio to consider. a 3.0 turbo will normally have a taller ratio than a 1.8

The 2.0 turbo is a low revver so the gears will be far too long for the non-turbo petrol 2.0

Does the 2.0 gearbox/engine use the same size clutch plate and flywheel as a 2.0 turbo? The reason I'm asking is that I'm putting a turbo engine in a 205, people use a Mi flywheel and clutch so it fits a 205 gearbox. I was thinking of using a 406 gearbox so I can use the standard size clutch rather than a smaller Mi one as they tend to give up after a while. As I carn't use a turbo gearbox as its hydraulic, a 2.0 gearbox is cable so it should work.

Thanks,
Dan

you will probably find they are similar. the taller gearing is due to the diff ratio.
are the ratios in a haynes these days ? i doubt it.

as for clutch , look at the diameters, bigger is better. i have no idea which bits mix /match tho.
