2.0 litre 16v turbo **Gti-6 conversion**
I was wondering if anyone has done this or if it is possible to put a turbo from the sri turbo on to the 2.0 litre 16v sri.
If so what all is involved, i.e. parts needed etc.

you may well need to have a new exhaust manifold made up, as well as the obvious low and high pressure pipework for the inlet and an intercooler fitted. You'll also need to sort out cooling for it, the wastegate actuator, probably swap in a turbo's MP3.2 ECU with a custom remap...

cheers for the info lads. that 309 is gony be a beast when its finished.
Im starting to think it would be easier to put the 16v head on the 8v turbo engine as it is already set up to run a turbo, i.e. the compression, intercooler etc etc already being there. correct me if im wrong. Or would it be possible to put a decompression plate on the 2.0 16v and save the bother of changing the pistons. Im guessin i would need a full 8v turbo engine and all the pipe work inorder to get the feeds to the turbo. Would the 2.0 16v inlet be sufficent or would it be better off with a gti6 inlet manifold.

Thats just a standard 8V, Why do you want to go to all that effort of sticking a 16v head on? Standard setup on a bar boost is good for around 180-190bhp Stick a uprated turbo and manifold on it, remap the ECU and it'll be around 250. Alot of effort for minimal gain really, they 16v will give more top end grunt but the 8v will be better low down.I've heard of a 8v running over 300bhp
You can get some serious power out a turbo'd 16v but it all comes at a cost

Woops posted the wrong link, its been changed now. The thing is i have a 2.0 16v sri and was just wondering what it would take to produce a t16 as such. After researching i just reckoned the 8v turbo engine is better set up and would be easier to convert to the t16. After reading up a bit more ive decided a gti-6 conversion would be alot handier, as they are similar engines... (406 sri 2.0 16v (XU10J4R/L) produces 132bhp standard)...(306 gti6 (XU10J4RS) produces 167bhp standard)... What are the differences in the two, im thinkin il need...

exhaust manifold,
the injectors and rail etc?, or are they the same on the 406?
gti6 ecu?
or will the 406 16v ecu do the job or will it need a remap?
what else? lol

which engine you got now ? d8 2.0 16 valve- 136hp ?
if you trying to save money and your time, buy 2.0 8 valve turbo engine. Do engine conversion and you will save your pocket. I did that conversion for my coupe. the 8 valve engine can hold about 300bhp, master niz406 said

aye i have the 2.0 16v. Ive decided to go down the gti-6 line as this works out alot simpler and there is alot more info on moding these engines. the t16 can wait for a few years lol.
ANy more info on converting this to a gti-6 would be greatly appriciated!

If you have a big pot of money go for the 16v turbo conversion. It's not just a case of stick a turbo on a 16v engine and abracadabra 400bhp. Compression ratio's need to be figured out, what sort of boost do you want to run? What power would you like? Too much boost and your going to run into problems. You will be able to run a fair amount on a stock engine but the life of the engine will be reduced if you stress the block too much. Ideally, you will need to rebuild the block to be on the safe side. But then if your refurbing the engine, you might aswell uprate it, then the expense starts.
8v's are a good engine, they can stand upto alot of abuse and produce good power. But if you want to go for a 16v conversion, then go for it... but it's not that simple
