1996 406 problem
i have a 1996 406 1.8 lx,i have a problem in that the clocks do not work except for the temp gauge (the warning lights were working at this stage) ,i got a second hand set of clocks and fitted them, the rev counter stuck at 2k revs and the speedo was working,i stripped them down to check and clean the board ribbob, but there was no difference,i did have a case where the temp gauge went off the scale to the right, which reset itself and the clocks failed again,i rebuilt the clocks and they were working except for the rev counter,i was sat in the car with the engine running when i tooted the horn, looked down and the clocks were no longer working!! i have restripped the clocks down, checked what i can with a multimeter and have found nothing wrong, one more time i stripped the clocks again finding nothing wrong,i have tried both sets of clocks and in both cases i have no instruments, mile display, warning lights (except for stop, turn and lights on/main beam) the illumination works,i am now puzzled as i dont know where else to try,the bloke i got the car off said the clocks were working when the car was last on the road which was nearly 4 years a go,the other problem i have os i have a buzzing noise under the dash from the heater area, but the heater is working as it shouls with no unusual noises, any help would be appreciated, sorry about a long first post
Re: 1996 406 problem
Sounds like a dodgy loom connection. The easiest place to check is the connector under the battery tray. If fidding with that has no effect, you'll be wanting to try the bulkhead connectors. I'm not too sure how that works, but I think there's a load of connectors in a cluster either side of the bulkhead with a go-between "thing" bridging the two. The bad news here is I can't tell you where it is in the engine bay, and there's a very high likelihood you'll need to remove the dash to get access to the cabin-side
