Strange Engine Fault

Post by SwedishBlue »

Hi, I havn't posted for a while, as everything was going fine. Now the engine on my 2lt D9 has developed a wierd fault. It starts and drives OK until the engine gets hot then it suddenly losses , power, revs and runs (if you can call it that) really rough. It won't tickover. Let it cool down and she is fine again. Checking it this morning and the power/revs loss came while stationary.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Oh lordy :( There was someone else a little while ago (406mcd) with a similar problem but they don't seem to have resolved it. I remember they thought it was their MAP sensor. MJB's suggestion was to get some cold spray from Maplin's and, when it starts playing up, give sensors a good spray 'til something changes. Not really sure what the propellant is on this stuff though...

think I'd be more inclined to say the coolant temperature sensor's duff unless the fault happens suddenly

Similar to what happened with the wife's Omega when I broke the water pump :supafrisk: Basically for some reason your car isn't regulating its temperature properly and the ECU is putting it in to limp mode, the idea being that you can drive it at very low speed to a garage for repair.

In case this happens to anyone else, the fault turned out to be the coil pack. It was an intermitant fault as it did not happen until the engine was hot, normally about 20 mins of normal driving. Nothing for it but to replace the unit. £106 Ouch :(
