Radio wont turn off?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Radio wont turn off?

Post by 406silverhdi »

Odd one, happened twice in 3 days now

Get to my destination, turn car off, radio wont turn off. Push button n radio still wont turn off

pushing cd, or other stations changes it over, but the display just sticks on what it was on

starting car, turning it off, taking keys out, turning on doesnt seem to help!!!

Cant turn it off now lol

ideas?

I'd be interested in this one too, happened to me a couple of times. After giving it time for the computer to reset all becomes normal again and I'd actually forgotten all about it until you just mentioned it... I've had it maybe 2 or 3 times in 7 years though....

morning

what do you mean by reset?

last time just turning the car on and off a few times fixed this, but not this time

I think if it becomes a permanent feature, i will install a push to break switch hidden in the dash

last night i just left it turned on but with the volume turned down in the hope it would have enough juice left in the morning.

the interesting thing is last week i had to replace the battery as it just seemed to loose its strength over night, but after a jump start it was fine, i know think that it was maybe the radio

If this is the case i will be annoyed, but i was off to germany the same day so didnt want to be abroad with a dicky battery :(

Hold on, I'm not getting this display stays the same whatever you do thing, so I don't think it's the same but mine didn't want to turn off: press the button in - off, let go of the button - on again. I got so irate with it I gave it a thump and broke the circuit board behind the buttons (still holding out for someone with a bust one for the board  ). When I took it to bits the circuit board looked like it had been wet sometime, cleaned it up and it turns on and off fine now, just none of the other buttons or volume control work any more

interesting...

well after leaving the radio on but turned down over night, 9 hours, it stared fine, and as i started it the radio did its temp off/on thing that it usually does.

Took it for a 10 min drive to replace and charge that was lost over night, able to turn it on/ off as i wanted and now its parked up outside with the radio turned off, huraah!

So i think i will leave it and see if it happens again and not really worry as the worse case scenario would have to be getting a jump start of a random member of the public

A jump start? Not you as well: the transient voltages generated can by up to 100v dc and into the thousands ac and can seriously damage vehicle electronics - don't even think about it!

Sorry, the reset thing: I found that switching the ignition off, removing the key, even locking and unlocking the car did nothing if it's only short periods, it's as if the BSI remembers all the current settings. But if I left it for a period of time (about an hour IIRC) then jump back in and start the car all was well.
