Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Post by toby9r »

Hi all , new here. my 2001 406 HDi 90 has had a dented wing for the last few years and i finally have a bit of time to spend on her . Is it a fairly straightforward job to remove and replace or is it a specialist job ? i work as an aircraft technician and have tools etc and am not affraid of a bit of blood and grease! its the drivers side wing thats duff. please advise, cheers. toby.

hello there,

i take it you mean the front wing if so,

its easy peasy you can take the whole front bumper off or just release the side youre working on to get access to the bolts to the wing, undo them, remove the headlamp then undo the row of bolts along the top of the wing in the bonnet shut then i would remove the plastic wheel arch liner which is easier with the wheel off then dont forget to release the indicator and if memory serves me right you can get to the bolts along the rear edge of the wing just by opening the door, its a simple enough job just can be fiddly on places this isnt in the right order though its would probably go

1. remove grille
2. remove headlamps
3. remove bumper
4.remove wheel arch liner
5. remove indicator
6. remove bolts from front of wing
7. " top of wing
8. " back of wing

hope this helps i did look in the haynes manual but i cant seem to find it in there this just serves me from memory working on 406's in the past id certainly get a tin of WD40 and soak all the bolts on the bumper and wing as from what ive experinced they love to corrode
