I need help

CAn anyone help me. this may sound stupid question to ask.

My outside tempreture reading is driving me around the bend. I get a reading of plus 12 - 15 c when it is very obvious the temppreture is minus. Can anyone help. or tell me where the sensors are so i can clean or change them or the soulution may be simpler. Anyone out ther had a simliar problem? I have a 406 estate excutive 2 litrte turbo p reg.

Hello and welcome!
Common fault, the sensor is in the passenger wing mirror and will need replacing. Not very expensive from dealer.

I think the wires need cutting and jointing though within the mirror casing because (from memory) the connector plug is buried deep away in the car/door?

It has an important function with the climate control so worth fixing for sure.

Welly, maybe you can answer me this question, what is the difference between climate control and air conditioning, or are they one and the same.

Also my front seats are heated but unfortunately do not work. There is power to the switches but cant not trace from there. its probably a quick fix but electrics are not my thing.

A/C will blast out a set temperature constantly but climate control will maintain a temperature

Not an easy fix, the elements break down in the seats, mine are the same :(
steve_earwig has replaced the elements in his with a set from ebay, I'd like to do the same but it's not a 5 minute job!
He has done a How-To, have a look in the knowledge base or search the electrical sub-forum.

To elaborate further on mandelbugs reply.......A standard car with 'Air Conditioning' has a refrigeration system powered by the engine's auxillary belt which sends cooling refrigerant to a unit behind the dash, your cabin fan blows air over this unit (like a little finned radiator) which removes the heat from the cabin (as felt in cold air coming from the vents). The drawback is that it can be difficult to control the temperature in the car and the driver will need to adjust the fan speed and/or the heater control to find a comfortable setting (especially on longer journeys).

Climate control does all the work for you! it looks at the outside temperature, the cabin temp and even the sunlight intensity and a programme works out how fast to run the fan and how much cooling/heating is required to maintain the temperature you have told it too.

The 406's C/C is very clever and does a good job overall, unless your condensor is rotten, but that's another story!.......

I learnt that 406 climate control system controls the temperature by openning the flap for heater matrix and mantaining a balance between cold air(moisture removed) blows through cooling matrix and not necessarily cut of the A/C compressor. However the non-climate control model cuts of the compressor when it achives a certain temperature hence more friendly towards fuel efficiency. The climate control units found in 607 and most japanese cars does cut of the compressor regularly where as in 406 climate control models it continously engages. I may be wrong here but this was as per my A/C technician.

I'm sure on D8's that the compressor kicks in and out depending on temperature, it does on my car at any rate.

Sure it does on my D8 as someone installed a generic thermostat switch to cut off compressor. As I can see it does cut off on D9's as well. May be D9 climate control system let the compressor to run like a mad dog to fight the tropical climate here :P

The cutting in and out of the compressor is simply the pressure control side of the system; the compressor cycles on/off to maintain a set pressure in the system, like a 'header' of pressurised refrigerant. Sometimes the gaps between the on/off cycles are far longer than others and this is when the overall demands on the system are low.

Although the compressor can be seen to be switching on and off it is, for all intents and purposes, still actually 'on' if you like and ready for its next call.

The D9's climate control runs the compressor 'on' all the time when in Auto or Windscreen demist mode. The only time the compressor is diabled fully by the CC is when the outside temp is below Zero - this is to pretect the components, or under full engine load - to free up some bhp's.
