She's poorly yet again :(

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

She's poorly yet again :(

Post by gRoberts »

Yet again, it's that time of year (seems to be very couple of months) that I have shell out to fix yet another problem with the 406.

Anyone know what would cause a knock when turning between 3-6 and 9-6? You can feel it in the brake/accelerator when it happens and at one point it caused the car to pull (severely) to the left. After turning between 3-6 it knocked again and all was fine.

I'm looking at replacing her soon but she's great on long journey's and I'm driving to France in June so I want to keep her going until I get back.

It's also got it's MOT next month :( so that will be getting at the same time.

Cheers

Have you jacked it up and wiggled both front wheels checking for any play in the ball joints and track rod ends. It may also be worth checking the bolts for the front wishbone bushes haven't sheared/snapped as theoretically that could cause a similar problem.

it's just had the track rod ends and ball joints done about a month ago. It's going for it's mot next weekend so i'll work out what it is then. Pricey job to fix any of what you've suggested? Cheers

Nope, all the parts are relatively cheap (each item should be sub £20) and easy enough to replace yourself.

Did it only start doing this after you had the bits replaced last month? If so, I'd suspect something hasn't been tightened up properly.

Thinking about it, it could also be the spring catching in the strut cup and 'boinging' out again, or maybe a knackered top mount?

It used to knock ever so slightly when going around a mini round about. Now it does it when ever turning at slow speeds.

I'm finding it hard to deal with the amount this car is costing me in maintenance. I'm looking at saving up a few grand and getting a newer car.

Cheers mate

Well she went in for her MOT today.

Strut top bearings and drop link rod (even though they had only replaced it a few months ago) was causing the banging.

Other then that. She sailed through the MOT with only a advisory on my break pipes.

Cheers
