406 D8 Respray

Hi All,

It's approaching curnch time my 406 GLX. Do I sell it on now or do I keep it for a few more years a runabout. If I decide to keep it then I need to sort out a couple of body work issue, the most problematic of which is some flaking paint around the rear passenger door wheel arch. Chipsaway say I will need a body shop to sort it out and suspect some minor damage wasn't that well repaired a few years back. The rest of the cars has some scratches and scrapes on it so was wondering if anybody knew of a good but cheap body shop around north Hants/Berkshire area; might go for a full respay or just a bit of selected repair work. Thoughts appreciated.

Hi - Depending on how much work needed doing and if you have sprayed a car before, i would do it myself - if its only little areas then you might get away with cans - if its large areas or full panels you are going to do its worth using a spraygun - but all depends on how good you are at bodywork - that would be the cheaper option - and also if you have access to a garage as spraying outside this time of year is a no go. - post some pics of the car if you can and i'm sure some more guys will give you their thoughts.. - if you ae going to be putting in to a garage - then if you have a cheap respray it will only last a few years before it starts flaking again - or expensive if the prep done properly - local work if not that much i think could be cheaper option.

If you take the time and patience then cans can work perfectly.
Even for whole panels! If you look through my posts on here you'll see how we repaired a considerable
dent in the rear quarter on my D8.
The cans came from Halfords (£20 ish )who do a perfect colour matching service.
