Consistent read Knocking

Post by csd1_uk »

Thought i would add this to my list of queries, i initially helped others on here with a rear knocking problem when the site was set up along with some other members, where the problem was the rear link arm (mentioned again in a recent thread)

i have replaced these on both sides twice in 18months!!!

the problem i have now is there is a consistent knocking on the rear drivers side wheel, i am pretty sure it increases and decreases (speed of knock) with speed,

Any Ideas?

saloon or estate?
could be shock absorbers or there rubber mountings, but very unlikely on a 406
the other favorite's are the tie rods and the anti-roll bar bushes, but these usually sqeak badly over bumps before they get to the stage of knocking

My anti-roll bar knocked like hell when the bush was shot.

its a saloon,

i do have the major rear suspension groaning and squeaking, that i am pretty sure is the bushes of somewhere, but this noise is a consistent knock that changes with the speed of the car, gets faster when the car does and slower when the car does, i am thinking something related to the wheel rotation, but not sure where to start looking
