Ignition barrel/heater problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Ignition barrel/heater problem

Post by JamesR »

Hi, I know this has been done to death but I'm
After a bit more info!

The heater blower doesn't work,

The motor is good, put across the battery to test it.
Bought a new heater blower resistor, still not working.
All connectors are looking good, took tham apart to check.

Now, I think it's the ignition as I remember I had trouble getting my key out one day and the heater didn't last much after that. I've wiggled everything death and still nothing

Wondered if anyone has had this and fixed/replaced the barrel to cure the problem.

I have a 2000 diesel hdi, any help or pointers would be much appreciated!

I had the same problem , first key stuck and was a baarstard to get out
this was after all the usual blower probs . End result was new ignition
but as i did not have the code card that comes with the card it cost me
£170 for a complete set of locks
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

Problem solved.... Temp repair

A different way of doing the by-pass

I took a feed off the orange wire from the ignition to the red wire from the ignition ( one for the blower) that goes to the 40amp fuse in the fuse box under the steering wheel. Connected it before the 40amp fuse.

Just used a £3 inline fuse to join them

This will do me until I can afford a new barrel

Hope it helps someone, will try to upload a few pics if anyone is interested

Just one thing, what is the orange wire for normally?
