What have you fixed or replaced on your 406?

Post by teamster1975 »

I've never seen this topic posted, thought it would be interesting to see what we've all had to fix!

I've done (in no particular order)

Rear discs, pads and handbrake shoes
Handbrake cables
New radiator, top hose and bottom hose
New thermostat & seal
New alternator and Aux belt
New front and rear antirollbar drop links and bushes
New top strut bearings
New rear top links
New top engine mount
New middle and rear exhaust sections
New dip stick (!!)
New rad fan
New airbox & airfilter
New plugs and leads
New throttle linkage

There's probably more but that'll do for now!

EGR Valve
Some sensor that I don't actually think was faulty
3 Sets of plugs, all of which turned out to still be OK
Front discs and pads
Wipers, oil & filters, tyres etc...

That can't be right... there must be more!! :o

Edit1: Stainless exhaust fitted.

And now, the end is near...
I replaced my D8 with a D9 and I'm still driving the D8
And so I face the final curtain...
But today I was looking at it and I noticed a hole in the passenger side sill under the B-post
You cnut, I'm not a queer...
So I investigated and noticed the paint bubbling further along, so I pulled that off and there was another hole
I'll state my case of which I'm certain...
It's fold-up-a-tastic! :(

Ok, D8:
both rad fan's brushes
rear wash/wipe was siezed when I got it
headlamps were loose when I got it
clutch
timing belt, aux belt water pump etc.
front springs, top bearings and shocks
speedo fag box thing
air bag ecu
front arb drop links, twice
driver's seat repaired
cat
rear disks
gearbox noisyness/argumentativeness
that bluddy pipe :x
plus the usual service stuff a few times

D9:
timing belt, aux belt, water pump, crank pulley etc.
rear disks (well, ok, I nicked them off the D8 :cheesy: )
front arb drop links
rear tie rod fingies
air con thingy in o/h console
1 rear caliper sliding pin

(I bet I forgot loads)

Front pads & exhaust back box for MOT
After 1 side lamp & 1 number plate lamp went, swapped them all for quad-led lamps.
(aircon still to fix)

Previous Xsara:
Battery, Timing belt & water pump, Bottom pulley, Air bag re-wire, Rear exhaust
Wiring loom repair to restore power to LP pump
Timing belt again, Bottom puley again, plus aux drive belt, tensioners etc.
Front discs, 3 sets of front pads, 1 set rears
5 H4 headlamp bulbs
Countless 501 side / number plate lamps - changed them in pairs after the first year or so.
Normal service bitz, 7 tyres.
(still reckon this was brilliant for 4 yrs/100k miles with only 1 breakdown - hope the 406 does as well)
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I've replaced the wheels and the ICE head unit.

No other changes or repairs have been needed in the 4 months I've had the car - long may that continue.

Just passed the 33,000 mile mark today 8)
