A D9 is like for like lower in insurance rating compared to a D8 - probably down to better NCAP rating?

Would it not be better to buy a HDi D9 and benefit from it's better fuel economy and relatively cheaper insurance
than running a D8 with relatively higher insurance and not so good fuel economy??

HDi is more expensive for me to insure compared to a DT.

Only reason DT is better economy is down to the gearbox ratio's. A 306 HDi gearbox with the 406 TD clutch fork will fix that for me.
Ontop of that veg oil is 70ppl! Nearly half of what diesel is and if I mix it 50/50 with waste veg oil which I prepare for free it works out at 35ppl.

Either way a dam sight cheaper than a HDi to run and it dosent have all the stupid sensors and ECU's and the BSI system that wont allow you to fit footwell lights or dosent like going for a swim.

I now have no money to buy another.
I can get £1500 quite easilly I reckon for the Ford.
I would like a D8 GLX 1.9TD.

Whats putting me off?

Well I bought my 406, it was a dog.
Becca bought her S reg Clio, It was a dog.
Shes just bought a 2003 Punto and when they changed the coolant it came apparent it was stuffed full of radweld and the headgasket was nackered.

It seems most car's post 8 years old seem to be complete dogs? Maybe thats the reason people are getting rid of them and there holding onto the good ones?
I reckon I could could an S or T reg D8 GLX for £800 if I tried which gives me enough money to give the engine a good service and change the belts also get the seals changed in the fuel pump to run cooking oil and have a little stash of money for other things to go wrong.

I'm really liking this currently...

It's a 150mile trek but I could get the train and drive it home, but what if it dosent make it home? :|

Should I just hold onto the Ford, better the devil you know then the devil you dont?
Or should I bite the bullet and get another Peugeot?

Bailes.
i paid less than that for my hdi estate, just dont rush to find one, the right one will turn up when u least expect it, n a side note if u need a lift/a mechanic to come a check it over i would volenteer

Got it bad, Sam, haven't you :cheesy:

My Coupe is coming up for her 9th birthday (in May), definitely not a dog. But I know that's not helping you much, with insurance being the way it is.

The car you posted the link to looks like a tidy enough motor.

What I would do if I were in your position is to wait until you turn 19 and see if that plus an extra year's NCB will help bring down some of the costs. In the meantime, your Focus looks like a nice runabout, and while it probably still needs some work, you seem handy enough with the spanners to get most (if not all) of the quirks sorted by the time you're more ready to pick out a new 406.

Definitely don't discount an HDi either; the HDi engine will hold on to a fair bit of its original value, given the lump is becoming quite well known for being very economical with the diesel. And, you can remap it for even better fuel economy.

I've had an HDi, wouldn't get another, 1.9TD all the way. £1,500 should get you a mint 1.9TD.
Keep a watch on Ebay, ask the normal questions. If you win, go there and take it for a drive before handing cash over.
If it is as advertised then buy it, if its not and its crap tell em to fook off and complain to ebay for false advertising.
A mate got a P reg 1.9TD Executive for £500 about 2 yrs ago, and it had 12 mth MOT and 6 mth Tax.

Thats just bad luck, can happen when bought from anywhere. I tend to choose a car that has a long MOT, prefer nearly 12 mths.
I've always checked a car out when I get there after I've won it on auction. 1 car wasn't as advertised, so I said I'd take it if he
knocked £200 off price, which he did after a bit moaning. The car must be as advertised, or you can walk away no problems.
