Spec Info
Hi all,
I am about to buy a Pug406 but wondered what the spec would be. The car is: 1997 PEUGEOT 406 2.0I GLX. Could anyone tell me what features/toys that the car might come with?
I tried to look online but no luck. Also tried the Service Books but i dont have the VIN.
Thanks

Re: Spec Info
Also: i have the choice between 2 cars.
1997 406 2.0 GLX Blue, 103k miles, MOT til April
2000 406 1.8 LX Silver, 184k miles, MOT til August (air con needs regassing)
I'm not worried about engine size (well economy is good!) but wondered which one you guys would choose (both same price!).

Man, that's loaded!
I think I'd be seriously looking at the older car. Apparently, the 1.8 is a bit gutless, also it's a D9 (facelift) which means it's got a BSI which is worth avoiding if possible (put "BSI" in the search box at the top of the page, you'll soon see what I'm on about). The petrol engines on these cars don't seem to give so many problems (unlike HDis argh!) so the high miles isn't necessarily a handicap but I'd guess it's probably been thrashed (unless the previous driver was happy being overtaken by milk floats

Thanks, noticed that now. Im stupid!
Cheers for that list. I know it doesnt have SatNav...
All the toys work (according to the seller). I have seen some reports of it having rain sensitive wipers but its a 1997 so that cant be right can it...?
Cheers dude!

Re: Spec Info
No problemo.
My '98 has auto wipers so I can't see why not. They even work better than those on my D9

Re: Spec Info
Makes me laugh when sellers say thisair con needs regassing

If it "just" needs regassing or "pumping up" as they say then why don't they frigging well do it and sell the car WITH a/c

I'll tell you why on the D9.....the condenser and/or pipework is corroded and needs at least £300.00 spending on it

Re: Spec Info
Cheers for that Welton. Im pretty sold on the D8!
Re: Spec Info
Hahaha aircon needs regassing. Sure. If it just needed a re-gas the existing owner would have done it. It's an easy way of saying "there's something wrong with the aircon but by the time you get round to discovering it doesn't hold refridgerant I'll be long gone"superdooper wrote:i have the choice between 2 cars.

The D8's the car to get. I think LX is poverty spec (or close to it) whereas the GLX is pretty much Exec spec without the leather seats. 184k is pushing it a bit (maybe not the engine, but I'd want to see a HUGE pile of receipts for things like suspension, cambelt, oil changes, etc before parting with more than about £200 for it) as these things can start to get a bit tired at 200k. Also the 2000 car will probably have multiplexed wiring = BSI = ££££ when (not if) something goes wrong
Also a 1.8 engine pulling something as heavy as a 406?

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Spec Info
If you think that's bad, they sold the 1.6 here (overtaken by old men on Zimmer frames...)

Re: Spec Info
Hang on we've not told him the best bit yet!
The oil change interval on the 2.0 Petrol was extended to every 40,000 miles and the oil filter can be left there for at least 4 years without any trouble.
Also if the radiator leaks - just ignore it and keep sloshing in new water!
Aint that right mjb and Blue406
