1997 V6 Executive Saloon (Blue)

Post by mjb »

NOW ON EBAY!!!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0310849099

PICTURES HERE:
http://www.trackandrace.com/406V6/

It's dark metallic blue, the best colour for 406s by a long way.

Good bits:

* It's an Exec! Top trim level (heated electric leather seats, CD changer in boot, digital climate control, alarm, alloys, etc)
* Aircon blows cold
* Fairly new battery, oversized so no worries about it ever dying
* Trip computer retro-fit
* Relatively new front brake discs+pads
* Tyres have good tread levels
* Probably 4 months tax
* Waterproof modification to aerial mount
* Strong engine, out-run a BMW M3 on its 155mph limiter last year on the Autobahn - once I'd caught up to him...
* About 30k from needing a cambelt change I think
* Had new driveshaft CV boots last year - an expensive job which hits all 406s of this age
* All electrics work fine
* Radiator was changed about 18 months ago
* Only about 130k on the clock, service history until I got my hands on it about 10k ago
* About 6 months MOT
* About 3 months tax (pre-2001 rates!)
* Can average 40mpg on the motorway if you're not heavy footed
* Amazingly for one of my cars, the bonnet's actually in good condition!

Bad Bits:

* Bodywork's a bit scratched in places and for some reason the boot lid looks like someone's taken a scourer to it (not gone through the paint though)
* I strongly suspect the throttle pot suffers from condensation - On days where you get to the car and the windows are misty, it'll rev on its own and idling is lumpy. No problem on dry days though. I'm hoping to get a spare one from fairlight08's scrap engine for £30. Easy to fit.
* I suspect the front strut bearings are shot. Only about £30 in parts, but I don't have the kit+ability to change them myself. Someone unfamiliar with 406s probably wouldn't notice....
* Cruise control only works occasionally. Suspect a perished vacuum pipe between the pump and actuator. Been meaning to look at this for ages, but never got round to it since I prefer using my right foot
* Might need a new stereo if I can't find the code to the OEM one I took out the day I bought it. Who still has tapes anyway?
* Cheapo exhaust, before I got it straightened out it managed to melt the rear bumper a bit

I'd expect to get about £6-700 for it on ebay, but my insurance expires Tuesday 24th, so I either need it gone by then, else I'll probably keep it another year. Car's in Stoke-on-Trent, but if the timing's right I could get it down near the M4/M5 junction :lol:

Make me an offer... Quickly... Please...

...or don't. I could do without the expense of buying a coupe :oops:

As of Thursday evening it'll be located near Swindon.

If someone wants it for the ludicrous price of £500, they can have it before it gets put on ebay.

Just shy of 200bhp for £500, able to cruise at 40mpg, and a completely honest description. What more could anyone possibly want?

Being pre-2001 it's CHEAP TO TAX (same as a 2000 1.6 Fiesta!) and insurance is not too bad (£430/year for a 29 year old, and I've only had my licence 4 years)

I'm even going to CLEAN the damn thing! Me! Clean! What's the world coming to?

Matt's car is down with me now, 10 miles west of Swindon. 'twas a sad day seeing the Coupe drive off.

Anyone after a V6 really needs to come and take a look at this car, it is in lovely condition - Matt has really looked after it. Good service history, all the toys, a nice car.

Lots of tempting pictures up here - http://www.trackandrace.com/406V6/

C'mon, you know you want to make an offer on it... :D

Once you get past the sheer terror phase (only 44bhp more than the tubby but f**k me it's all in the delivery :shock: ) it's a supremely good car to drive, and the controls are so precise and progressive. Gas bonnet struts too!!! :P It really does have to be heard too, when you get it over 5000rpm it's, uh, I can't describe it, but it's intense and intoxicating. You wish you didn't have to change up, in fact I've found myself bouncing off the limiter a few times dammitjustletmehaveanotherthousandrevs :twisted:

The XU10J2TE's a great relaxed engine with poke between 3-4000rpm, but the ES9J4 does the relaxed thing too - I'm often driving around under 1500rpm and have actually convinced diesel owning passengers it's a diesel with some good bottom-end grunt... Then I've snapped their necks off by using the other 90% of the accelerator travel :twisted:

You know you want to... :cheesy:

P/X, but the value's yet to be determined... I'd love to see it go for a bit less to a forum member though... HINT HINT PEOPLE!!! :lol:

See, Martin here is able to keep a car once my insurance expires on it... If it were round mine, it'd end up being towed within a few hours :shock: so we've got a somewhat unique arrangement going on. I would like to say however MartinV6 is a great guy and a pleasure to deal with. I even got a cup of tea and offer of food! :cheesy:

Martin, don't get rid of your other car whatever you do, you're a genuine credit to the 406 community!

Nope, but there's piccies of it here from when I used a somewhat unique ramp to replace the knackered exhaust...

Well thank you, it was great to meet you too. If we do decide to sell Cath's V6, it will definately be replaced by another one - likely later estate. Still got to be a V6 manual though.

Perhaps I am meant not to have put pictures up, but yes, the photos in the Trackandrace URL just above are of mjb's car. I gave it a brief wash and took those photos earlier today. A very tidy, good condition car.
