climate control issue

Hi every one I'm a newby,

I have a problem that has just turned up on my 406 rapier 2.0 hdi taxi on a 52 plate

For about year my radio would not work, cd was fine but the radio was mush, seemed like an aerial issue but as I rarely used it I did not do anything about it.

Last week when I set off to work the fan in the cabin (air con / climate control) suddenly kicked in and decided to set itself to maximum and I am unable to switch it off, and low and behold the radio is back working as normal, probably not connected but thought I would mention it as I only found out the same time when I ejected a cd.

I normally have things set to screen demist and auto unless I get full cab full of sweaty night club revellers when the aircon and fan works better at stopping the screen misting.

I have had the fan out and it appears ok, I tried another fan and the same thing happens, fan is indicated off on the display but is flat out and noisy, but only in a rotation way not bearings.

Sounds like an electronic control unit that regulates the fan speed is kaput and has defaulted to full speed only. I don't know for sure but there's often a fan speed regulator box of tricks next to, and plugged into, the fan motor - they normally burn out so might smell a bit toasty like.

Other than this it might be the climate control panel in the dash console?
