laptop or desktop???
Which do you favour and why???
i have both desktop and laptop but prefer to use the desktop as i like a proper mouse and find the keyboard easier to use,My wife keeps asking about the possibility of removing the desktop from the living room and just using the laptop.
I do understand why cos it does take up valuable space with the printer and all the stuff that goes with it but like i said i prefer the desktop
anyhow whats your preference??????

I prefer to use a desktop but due to lack of space (two bedroom bungalow!) I'm stuck on a laptop. Using a touchpad really makes your finger ache after a while!

Desktop,
just doesnt feel right working on a laptop,
this way it helps me keep a distinction between browsing and working, if its browsing i will sometimes use the laptop but if preparing anything for work, lesson plans, worksheets, exam papers what have you, always on the desktop,
it just feels better when you have work to do, well it does to me anyway

Re: laptop or desktop???
Due to space, I don't regret going from desktop to laptop
Also I feel less anti social browsing the laptop compared to the desktop.

Re: laptop or desktop???
I favour a desktop (by which I actually mean an ATX-compliant tower system) - this is because I build my own systems from components, therefore I get to upgrade bits from time to time. Because the stepson also has an ATX-compliant tower system, when I upgrade my PC, he gets the redundant parts from my PC. And because I also have a third ATX-compliant tower PC as a server, that machine is also upgraded using the redundant bits from the step-son's PC. So when I upgrade my PC hardware, it's really three upgrades for the price of one!
The most you can upgrade on a laptop is the hard drive and the memory. Some laptops (typically high-end expensive ones) have a processor you can upgrade, but it's a pain in the ass and invalidates your warranty.
The Wifely Person favours a laptop, though the one she has (a big HP Pavilion dv9000 entertainment laptop) generally doesn't move from its docking base on the account of being quite large.
She also has an Acer Aspire Mini One netbook for when she's on the move. Cheapest pre-built computer I ever bought.

Re: laptop or desktop???
my hobby/sideline is pc building and repair so I can say without a shadow of a doubt for general use a desktop is much more cost effective, repairs and upgrades are so much cheaper and easier.
I do own both but my laptop was virtually free and put together with scavenged second hand parts (a bit like my 406
)
If you are strictly a web/mail/office type user then go with a laptop by all means but if you want to do anything needing a bit more power such as gaming/video encoding etc it's desktop all the way. These things can be done on newer top end laptops but the price for such a machine is ridiculous.
Personally I would say I use the desktop 99% of the time, the laptop tends to get used by the kids or if I'm out and about (which is basically what they were made for)

Re: laptop or desktop???
I used to favour my desktop (still in the living room
) but since I rely on my lappy so heavily for work I'm comfortable with either. I do all my work stuff on the lappy these days and sometimes use the desktop to browse the net etc. Often can't get near the desktop though 'cos the kids are there!

Laptop all the way for me. Internet, word processing and powerpoints are what I use mine for. Got scundered with the cursor pad so I bought a USB mouse for buttons, best money ever spent
