406 TD What Mpg are people getting?

Post by aust250378 »

Hi all,

I know the 1.9Td isn't the most frugal of the bunch, but with 2 passengers commuting to work + climate control on mixed roads and driving conservatively, I'm acheiving around 40Mpg(I'm guessing maybe you could say 45mpg if the air conditioning wasn't on at all.

What's everybody else getting with this engine?

Thanks

Austin

About 45 or so. 600+ miles from a 70 litre tank, was getting more when Morrisons were flogging their B30

I am getting over 50mpg out of mine that is going from London to Leamington Spa every day (90 miles) up the M1 and the odd bit of running around at the weekend. I have watched it come up about 5mpg since the winter

Definitely a bit better on the motorway. I usually cruise at 3k/70mph since the turbo tops out at 3k. Therefore I reason I'm at max boost and additional fuel input won't see such an efficiency improvement. Or something.

I get roughly 40mpg day in-day out in my 2.1TD doing a 40mile commute on mostly rural and single carriage A roads with a few urban bits chucked in for good measure. I do live in the Pennines though so I am up and down a lot of hills.

hi this is a subject i wanted to ask, as i got a 90hp HDI and am averaging only 34.9, even with a light foot and no weight. Just full sserviced it all filters and diesel clean up. Ive heard changing the MAF can help? my tyres balance is crap but apart from that cant think what else to do, is this normal??

34.9

that's really bad mate, im getting about 53-4 mpg combined out of my 90 hdi, what type of driving you doing? short urban trips im hoping with that kind of consumption, the 90 hdi is a frugal beastie at the worst of times and a miracle worker at the best of times, i have had figures well up in the 74-5 mpg's for motorway trips and rarely get below 50mpg round town.

hmm yeah thats what i was worried about. Even on long journeys i get that kinda mpg which is crap. Yesterday for example I did pretty much 55 mph and lightly touched the pedal all the way for about 40 miles and still only got around 36mpg.

does anyone know if the maf sensor isusually to blame? as i sadi just changed head gasket and done full service inc injector cleaner, no brakes are seized on, tyre are inflated etc...?

Sounds normal.

I get about 37mpg from my HDi 90. Not a heavy foot, but mostly stop-start city driving with the occasional A road run down the country.

Bit better than the 20mpg my GTV used to get.
