Thrashed the sh*t out the van all day to get all deliveries/collections done and managed to get back to the yard at 2.55 to watch it in the office, poor van.

I managed to get back also at 14.55 but as I parked up the lorry, the boss of the company across the road came over to tell me the tale of woe of his new car.

Got into office about 20 mins later and watched it on iplayer
Not good as someone came in, and had to deal with them whilst had one earphone in still listening to the match :D

Ha ha

No, it was a MG ZTT

He bought it off a stealer in lichfield

We had been talking about them previous and he said he'd seen this one and what impressed him was how clean it was under the engine bay, and very little in the way of rusty screws.
So he buys this one, and he saw me early last week, and said, come and have a look at the engine bay.
He pops the bonnet, and the header tank has a pink fluid around the top
I says, well it could be air in the system needing bleeding.
He says he's not convinced and thinks it's head gasket. I say, well, didn't like to say that to you.
He calls dealer, and then come and fetch and return next day.He drives it 1 mile from his house to his factory.
He sees me, and says he's pleased as they re=valeted up car and done a really good job.
He pops the bonnet to show me, and low and behold, the same pink fluid around the header tank!
They had told him first time it was a blocked pipe, and again come take it away and return, and say this time it's a dodgy header cap.

SUnday, he takes his misses out to Rutland and on way, he says, he's behind slow traffic, and when gets to a crawler lane, puts his foot down to overtake them.
Upon hitting crest of hill, there is a ping, and the temperature is off the gauge.
He pulls into next layby, and steam is pouring out of the car.

Phones stealer, and they say they'll send someone out to collect car.
As in middle of nowhere, he waits for car to cool, and drives it to nearest pub, and waits for them.
An hour later, he rings them and they say they are sending someone out.
He says how about they pay for his lunch, or for a taxi home.
They agree to pay for the meal.
He finishes his meal, and rings again, and they say, they can't locate their recovery truck.
They suggest he gets a taxi the 25 mile home and leave the keys with the pub.
The next day, the landlord of the pub, rings him up (he'd left his details with him) and says, the stealer turned up and DROVE the car away.

Next day, he says he waited till half 9 and rang them up and asked to speak to someone resposible for his car, they hear them shout him, and they come back on, and say he's not there
He says who is the managing director, they say mr so and so, he says is he there, they say yes, he says, can I speak to him, they say, he's busy at the mo, he says ask him to ring me back by 10am.
Bang on 10am he gets a call, and they say, that the mechanics are investigating.
He says, well the car has been back 3 times and still has the same fault. He says really he wants his money back.
They say give us chance to look at car. He says, you've had chances and is dissapointed in them.
He quotes the sale of goods act, and he says he will get back to him.
Bit later the MD rings back and says the mechanics are playing safe and taking engine apart.
He says, so you also think it's head gasket, they say, no, no, just playing safe.
He says, he's not happy and wants his money back. MD says he will get back to him.
Next thing he's getting a call and been told he can have a full refund, the cost of his meal, the cost of the taxi ( he told the taxi driver to bump the bill up as much as he wanted for the inconvenience as long as he got a receipt :cheesy: :cheesy: ) and any other reasonable costs he sees fit!!!

He did the right thing in getting the money back, that car sounds like a shitter.

All Rover HG's fail don't they? I know it's a common thing. Trouble is you don't know how hot the engine's been allowed to get at some point......

The only Rover I'd be interested in is the 75 with the big V8 and rear wheel drive (anyone see the Top Gear episode where Clarkson drove one, sideways, mostly) :)

If it's a ZT it must be getting on a few years? Did they not go out of business 5 years ago?

The K series engine mostly. Highly strung but the head gasket is too weak for it. Supposedly a good engine when it works.
Though there are kits that the likes of Land Rover fitted to the Freelanders that give a stronger HG.
I had a friend bought a Rover 25, I used to ask him "head gasket gone yet?". Did his head in and he hardly talked to me until one day he said "you were right. HG went."

ZT V8 :)

I would be tempted by a 75 with the bmw (huuuck...spit) 2.5 diesel....

Don't think you'd ever catch me buying a car without gunk under the lid. Gunk is honest
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
