Re: Aircon repair
So the people who make the cans that halfords sell will be basically put out of business in this country? Bloody ludicrous. What next? illegal to flush toilet paper incase it chokes a sewer rat?

Re: Aircon repair
As far as I am aware, it's kinda ok to work on the electrics and gas in your own home - because you own the place and you've only yourself to blame if you cock it up in a way. Common sense would hopefully prevail and in the event of any claim or investigation they would have the work inspected for soundness. I happen to do a very good job with electrics to the same (or higher) standard as a professional because I take my time and I'm not 'on a price mate' in fact one of my neighbours had to remove a section of twin and earth which had been slowly arcing and scortching near a light fitting (all fitted by the build electricians).
I live in a new house built in 2003 and have changed and added-to a lot of the electrical wiring and am soon to carry out a gas alteration. Heck, when I replaced the electric oven I noticed that the fitted gas hob was leaking gas (soap test) and that was the gas that the f*cking registered plumber fitted
so I fixed HIS bloody leak!! (I always thought i could smell gas sometimes). I won't even start about the 6 or 8 water leaks in the first two weeks
Oh, and stevie - I'm going to take a drive to Jastrebarko tomorrow and find a dark-coloured 406 estate (and a load of Golden Retards) and take your address, then I shall report you to BT for stealing all that copy paper
- see, it's easy really

Re: Aircon repair
BT would take 6 to 12 months to even raise an eyebrow about stolen copier paper.
Hell, when I worked on a service center for them, we discovered "questionable material" on an employee's computer (in his "My Pictures" folder in his own Windows 2000 roaming profile, no less) featuring the elderly performing some rather bizarre acts that contravened the company's acceptable use policy.
More than a year later, when I left, that employee was still working there, while the company "made investigations".
Yet not long before that, someone else accidentally left his phone off mute while speaking to his manager about a customer he was particularly exasperated with, mentioned to his manager that the customer was "a w**ker". He was out the door that afternoon. Thus proving that some people are dispensable, and others are bloody bulletproof. Bureaucracy!

Re: Aircon repair
Not sure about gas, but I know it is ok to work on your home electrical stuff although you must get your work inspected afterwards. I believe insurance policies nowadays don't cover unapproved electrical work.Welly wrote:As far as I am aware, it's kinda ok to work on the electrics and gas in your own home

Re: Aircon repair
Imagine buying a double socket from B&Q, fitting it (in place of a single one for safety's sake to reduce socket adaptors etc), and I have done many of these, and on completion of the work having to get an electrician in to test it - presumably keeping the power OFF until he comes around - like in two weeks time
Absolutely crazy
Friends of ours moved into a new house a couple of years ago and could smell gas, I happened to be there so had a look and sure enough the cooker hose connection was leaking. I had some GAS PTFE tape at home so nipped back and fixed it (I stopped the leak and did a soap test). Afterwards I did feel a bit funny about it but hey, I'd fixed it
The crazy thing is, if they'd have called British Gas they would just turn the gas off (it was January
) then they'd have to get a gas fitter to fix the problem, test the whole installation, check the flues and any other likely breaches of the regs and then hopefully set the system to work again.....mucho £££££££'s later

Absolutely crazy

The light switch in my kitchen died the other day. Wonder how long it's going to take the estate agents to get back to me...Welly wrote:Imagine buying a double socket from B&Q, fitting it (in place of a single one for safety's sake to reduce socket adaptors etc), and I have done many of these, and on completion of the work having to get an electrician in to test it - presumably keeping the power OFF until he comes around - like in two weeks time![]()

Ok, when you get off the motorway, go through the tolls, follow the road up and look for a big place on the left called "Princess" (conference/wedding/piss-up centre), then after that there's a place called "Pavin" (agricultural shop oo-arrr) and you want to turn down the road just before that. Follow it down, it's a sharp right-hander at the bottom so slow right down or you'll end up in a ditch. About 50 meters up is a small turning on the left again, it's too small for 2 cars to pass so look down it first to make sure it's clear (Hey, you just avoided not one but two manky level crossings). At the end of that turn left. Keep going and look for a big ugly building on the left with "DVD Cvetković" written on it (it's the fire house, the do not lend videosWelly wrote:Oh, and stevie - I'm going to take a drive to Jastrebarko tomorrow and find a dark-coloured 406 estate (and a load of Golden Retards) and take your address, then I shall report you to BT for stealing all that copy paper- see, it's easy really
