Need help with standard stereo

Post by jason1987 »

ive been having probs with the left speaker cutting out, i took the stereo out today and fiddled with the wires but couldnt do much, i was tryin to get the sound to just come from the front speaker like ive been able to do in the past but i couldnt get it too, it seemd like it was going to the back left speakers twice, instead of one setting going to just the front left and one to back left, both were goin to back left, im all confused now lol. trying to find the problem, whether its just the speakers or stereo or what

right ive now found out its definatly the connections in the back of the stereo but i dont know what, i thought the metal tab that goes in the back of the stereo was the speaker connector, but when i took it out it didnt make a difference, so whats it for? i took some pics

No, it's Pug-specific, it looks rather like the data feed to screen, bsi, stalk - not something you want to mangle any further. I+d think the bare wire is where all the other shields from the coaxial cables are bunched together and earthed down to the stereo. The one below looks more like the speaker feeds.

yh but the whole lot of them plug into an adapter that goes into an aftermarket stereo doesnt it, well maybe apart from the one that contrals the display etc, but its the speaker ones that are a prob, and theyd connect into a new headunit, so i need to find out what it is and fix it, they look ok visually

You got a D8 or D9 Jason? That connector does look a bit mangled!
You say it is defintely the connector; does it right itself when you wiggle it? Could also be a dry joint on the HU itself...

Unplug the battery for 5 mins & reconnect, that'll reset the code count.

I would suggest taking a look at a loom at a breakers; take a photo, chop it off and solder to yours.
Haynes does have a wiring diagram which in this case is accurate if you should decide to remake it yourself :)

the ones ive been pressing that make the speaker cut back in are the power leads, i thought they were the speaker plugs, so why would pressing the power cables make the speaker cut in and out?

I've got no idea. Sometimes the answer to a problem is completely illogical but if it cures it then who cares!

You're not exactly helping yourself here Jason; as I said previously:

We are all here to help each other but you need to do some basic troubleshooting first. Continuity test between the speaker plugs and the radio connector?
