Who needs the right tools when you have brute force?

Post by no2lurch »

sortened the gear lever today on my d9.

did i use a screw driver? no.

did i use a knife? no.

did i use a hack saw? no.

just used a pair of mole grips and some brute force!

only took 30 mins as well. took the car out for a drive, and its much improved - at least i think so anyway!

Lol we used to call it the Snap. When struggling with something it was customary to lose ones rag with the offending nut or bolt whilst growling and 8 times out of ten it worked :)

i didnt lose my rag with it at all. i saw a how to on the coupe forum and had a good read. the biggest problem was getting the gear knob off (no jokes please). once i knew i would go no damage by using force, i just went for it. it came free eventually! i reconned that the ally overlayed part in the original is merly spaced away from the original shaft by what is only a big rubber bung. so, mole grips clamped on, and twist away. it eventually tore off and left just the metal under lever. turned out i was right! (first time) this just happens to be the length the coupe boys took theirs down to the sawing, trimming and cutting way.

I'm confused. Why would you want a set of mole grips as a gear lever?
