side light bulb

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Sound's like it's shorting somewhere. As soon as you switch it on the electrickery runs straight to earth, putting a large current through the bulb and blowing it.

To confirm this, remove the bulb and test for resistance between the contacts and earth i.e. a bare metal point on your car. Battery negative terminal might be a good place. Obviously make sure you're all shut down with ignition off first :)

If you do confirm an earth, well, then the fun starts as you try to locate it ^_^

Whhhhhuhhhhhhhh? How can shorting a light bulb blow it, it'd blow the fuse Shirley :? It can't get any more than 12 volts either, which it's designed to run on. Unless the voltage regulator's fried, in which case I'd expect more than just a bulb to blow. Or it's an HDi and someone's managed to hook it up to the injectors

Umm, weird one, there's been people with headlamp bulbs continuously blowing. Check connections (high voltage spikes from arcing connectors could possibly blow the bulb) but I reckon the easiest fix would be to fit LEDs.

Hi Everyone,
this problem could be caused by a poor battery earth. This can raise system voltage when the engine is running and a symptom is the short life of bulbs, though how it could only kill one I cant imagine! Or, are we getting side tracked? Is it the bulb or fuse which is blowing? Cant see the bulb going without at least a flash.
