multi functional display unit removal

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Hi,
On my 98 406, it just levered out, needed a fair bit of force though. No need to remove any screws.

Someone else has made a step through guide on the issue:

its very helpful I used it and it did not leave me asking any questions it was that detailed.

A thin bladed screwdriver and some gentle persuasion will lever it out. When I've taken mine out for bulb replacement the front of the display always wants to pop off but just push it back on wiggle the screwdriver and find a better lever point, it will come so just keep trying.
One thing to note if you're levering against the hazard switch I try to hold the switch in place with a spare finger as it will move around a bit.

Hiya Mate,

Is yout car a D8 (mk1) or D9 (mk2)? On the D8 the mfd should just lever out with a flat tool. On the D9 you need ot remove the cover plates either side of the mfd and undo the screws they hide (see the link posted by 406executiveHDI above).
