To make it easier in the for sale threads - people selling stuff and wanting collection, but failing to put where they live.

On a rc forum i'm on, if you don't fill out your profile with your location, then your for sale thread is locked

i think its a good idea, however if the seler doesnt want to put a location, then surely they will have less chance in selling the item - i know if i want to sell something, i have a better chance of doing so if i put the location. its hardly rocket science!

I don't really think we should have to put our location but it should be 'encouraged' I suppose.

Some people like to be anonny mouse or otherwise kinda move about unnoticed instead of everyone knowing everything about you. It's a bit like being nannied in this country where everyone knows everything from your postcode to your numberplate

I made a point ages back where, because we go wildly off topic, we may start ranting about friends, family and work collegues....this then makes you easy to spot given your location etc (bit far fetched but hey).

as with everything there is always a plus and a negative
refrence family mates etc how many no you post on this forum?how many have 406s? i would say very few so the risk is low.we are not asking you to post your village/street just general location then it is up to you who you disclose it to.
you also have a user name so that is also some protection.
as for the people who want to be "anonny mouse" they could tell porkies and register in leeds when they are in manchester etc.

Im with "location required" crowd on this one, maybe have the location option as "opt out" rather than as it is currently "opt in"
then that would allow for the shy and introverted or bold and perverted to stay annony-mouse to protect the innocent etc etc ,

but then we all know Puggy is in Staffs anyway :cheesy: what with him being so shy and all that

I'll take a look at the sign-up form; I don't think it can be made a requirement though.

I agree it makes things alot easier when you know where people are, but I don't know if we can make it mandatory (Teamy's looking now) and even if we could I'm not sure if that's appropriate. As mentioned above some people might not want to say where they are. P'raps we should should strongly encourage newbies to add their location in response to their first post?

Anyone remember that Frappr thing we used to use?

EDIT: Thinking about it, if we can make the field mandatory we should go for it, people can always type "not sayin'!" in there if they want....

I've done a bit of research and this requires a mod to PHPBB. There is one available but it needs uploading to the web server which we do not have ftp access to.
Sorry guys!
