Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
My breaks are squealing like mad and the handbrake feels a bit loose, and i have determined that i need new disks and pads, because the disks have big trenches in them and havent been changed in some time. But what is the best option for new brakes, should i get Peugeot Genuine Brakes, or Other Brands im looking good quality brakes that will last. What is the average budjet to set for a set of pads and disks for my car which has disks all round?
Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
i bought discs and pads from halfords as i have a trade card.
they have been on for about 2 months now and no proplems.

Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
ebay has the full set of disks and pads for about £80, is that a good price.
Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy

Here is the link to them

£9.99 is pricey enough for postage

Avoid ebay stuff unless you know the source. Much of it is intended for far eastern markets and isn't EU approved.
i'd stick to Pug, Brembo or Bosch discs, and original pads. Brakes and tyres are 2 things I don't even consider compromising on just for the sake of money.

Chances are that the "genuine" Peugeot brake parts are Bendix or Lucas.
Mintex brake parts are very good quality, as are Apec, Lockheed, and Ferodo.
Check out these guys....http://www.brakesinternational.co.uk/

Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
Yip i have visited the brakeparts online website, and i have selected
2 front vented lucas brakes
2 rear solid discs
4 front pads
4 rear pads
But should i add the rear handbrake shoes, when i pull the hanbrake fully the left brake locks but the right one slips, though i am told by my mechanic that the rear brakes on the 406 stick and its uncommon for the rear shoes to wear too much, is this right, i have adjusted the thightning nut in the centre console and it worked initially but its now taking more lift to lock the wheels.

If you are changing the rear discs it makes sense to replace the handbrake shoes as well.
Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
Bit of a highjack this im sorry to the op but ive got a question.
How long do you guys find the pads and discs last on your 406s? Ive had mine 4 years, done 33k and its still on the pads and discs I bought it on and Ive no idea how old they are,it passes mots and stops perfectly on them too.

I found Mintex stuff excellent. How about this, full set of discs, pads and handbrake shoes for just over £130?

Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
Thanks for that ebay link, that is amazing value for the full set all the required brake components, so i have just bought it, and i shall use the wisdom of the haynes manual to help me fit them
Re: Some Advice On what Brakes to buy
I personally go for Mintex or Ferodo , but check where your pads are made . my mate works for a local motor factor and they will not buy "made in China " parts as they reckon the quality to be not good enough .
