External temperature sensor works, but is very very dim

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

External temperature sensor works, but is very very dim

Post by chrisfinlay »

And I don't mean HERP DERP dim. It's almost impossible to see if the light isn't right.

I'm also assuming it's an external temperature sensor as I turned the car into a sweatbox and it dropped from 16 to 15 degrees...

I only noticed it because I had the baby valet'd today, and I'm assuming the reason I thought it didn't work previous is because what little was coming off it was hidden behind dust or whatever.

Anyway, here it is:

Anyone have any idea how to get it brighter?

Edit: speaking of HERP DERP, forgot to include the image...

Pop the display out and there are two bulbs in the top of the unit; the same type as the dash bulbs.

what's the best way to go about this? When I bought the car for £375 it didn't come with a manual...

Just lever it out gently with a flat object. A screwdriver will do but be careful!

Well, I got the display out, and then proceeded to fiddle with the damn clips holding the face on - including dropping one of my screwdrivers down the back of the centre console, where it still rests! I shall get it out another time, should be abl;e to remove my stereo and get it, as it's just a generic mounting holding it in place so it's not 100% secure.

Anyway, here's where I got to:

got the bulb out, but am stumped here. I'm assuming the white base is part of the bulb itself, as I can see no way to remove the bulb for it. But none of the garages around here are selling anything remotely like it. I'm gonna go to the Peugeot garage in Douglas tomorrow and see what they think, but can anyone see if I've gone wrong while we wait?

Halfords sell them, or take a trip to a breakers and grab a pocketful!
You probably don't want to hear this now, but the whole unit slides out; you don't need to dismantle it.

I had the whole unit out, but I couldn't get the cable off (clip wouldnt seem to come undone) and I saw now way of getting to the bulb without taking the front plate off...

Don't have Halfords on the Isle of Man :P We have DSM, who no doubt will stock it too. We shall see!
