Well after nearly 4 years almost problem free driving, 144k on the clock, the 406 is being replaced with a new car.
I looked about and wanted a 406 coupe but couldn't get over the interior looks of the 406 in general. The next in line would be a Mondeo.
Managed to pick up a 53 2.0 Mondeo (MK3) Zetec 130 for £2500, only 98k on the clock, full service history and more importantly the dual mass flywheel and clutch replaced not long ago.
I will be sticking around, as the car is going to my parents. They love it and think I'm an idiot, but heh, we never live up to our parents expectations lol.
I now awate a slating for getting a Ford...
New car ;)

Mondeos are very nice motors mate. I've nearly gone over to the dark side a couple of times but the spec I want (at least as good as my 406) doesn't fit the price I want to pay.

I test drove a 2.2 TDCI (155bhp) Tit X a few years back - lovely and all but the Casio style mileage counter just put me off completely.

The model I went for was below the spec that I wanted but the cost made up for it.
I am going to be travelling to and from Glasgow every weekend or fortnight, so will need something reliable, cheap and smooth. So far, this has ticked all those boxes.
Cruise control and 6 speed gear box ;) Mile muncher.
Everytime I go to think of getting rid of the 406, it surprises me. Thankfully it's going to my parents, so it'll always be near when I want to thrash it lol
Why a Mondeo? You can't go wrong with rep mobiles. The more of them around, the cheaper things are. The 406 is a lovely looking car from the outside, but the inside, it bores the crap out of me.

Should have bought an 02 or 03 plate 406 Coupe in SE spec. Ticks all them boxes and completely blows your mind with its style.

I'm yet to be warned by anyone (bar you) to stay away from Mondeo's. The only warning they did have is that they are prone to a fault on the dual mass flywheel and sometimes the injectors need reprogramming.
That said, You rarely hear a good review of Peugeot on Top Gear, and we all know different.

Rear subframe bushes give up on Mondeos, other than that good cars that handle and ride well

Nice one, hope it gives you miles of trouble free motoring. Apart from some detail differences (slightly modified valvetrain to make it quieter etc) it's essentially the PSA engine, so you know it'll just go and go and go if it's cared for.
The subframe bushes only tend to go on cars chucked about hard or driven heavily loaded, so the odds are in your favour, and it's not an especially gnarly job anyway.
