Re: The stupidity of Britain
Well, when he said "what you doing Thursday?" I thought he was gonna invite me in for another MRI or something.
On the day of the op, the cutter was doing his rounds seeing the patients before the operation, and he had his leg in plaster! I asked it he was going to be alright working on me like that and he was adamant he'd be fine. That's dedication.
PS, it's Rugby St Cross Hospital in Warks. I can't praise the Docs or nursing staff enough.

Re: The stupidity of Britain
Wow! They must've been having a quiet time.
My dad went to see a specialist because his hip joints, the guy said he was too young, try again in ten years. Ten years later he was asked why he didn't come sooner
After waiting almost a year my bro and I managed to persuade him to go private. I'm not keen on going private but he's a very active guy and enforced inertia was making him age greatly, we were worried that he wouldn't make it to the front of the queue. He's 77 now and only does light stuff like decorating, gardening, digging holes and building fences.
@ Jasper - I was thinking maybe driveshafts, if it goes with road speed it must be somewhere between the diff and the wheel. It's a kind of rub, rub, rub noise and seems to come from the whole car. I really need to get it to a carpark...
Leg's feeling much better today thanks guys. I was perfect this morning but I've had to go and do stuff so it's feeling a bit more painful, nothing like yesterday though. Unfortunately tomorrow I've got to go back (make sure it's not got mushrooms growing out of it I suppose), the hospital's a bastard to park at and I'll probably have to walk a mile or so. Brilliant
On the plus side, when I took all the stuff to the tip, including that damn glass, I found a wheelchair in the skip
It's at home now wanting a couple of new tyres and a spot of welding. It's an old, old hospital one and weighs a ton but there's not much wrong with it. Shame it won't be ready for tomorrow but my dad's mate has MS, we're trying to get him out here because it's an amazing place and he's never been outside England but we weren't sure where to get a set of wheels from
Ah, reminds me of going down the hill at the back of Whipps Cross two up on my one, and almost stacking it 'cos I couldn't steer it round the bend at the bottom

Re: The stupidity of Britain
Leg news: I've been to my quack's in the town here, I don't have to go to Zagreb and walk for miles tomorrow, it's ok to do it with her - hoorah!! Unfortunately the nurse had a squint at it and my going shopping, to the tip etc. today has opened it up again, the dressing was full of claret and had to be soaked off
Oh, and that's the first time I've looked at it since I did it, it's about 4 inches and jagged. I'm guessing that's why they didn't think they were up to fixing it here. Ah well. So I have to sit with my leg up for a couple of days, which is all fine and good but the garden needs watering and my brother's coming this weekend and I need to finish cleaning in my house and wash my car and and and. Dammit

Re: The stupidity of Britain
Cheers guys, although I feel a bit of a clod and not deserving it
Back to the quack's this morning for another check. And today's recognisable words were "blue", "necrosis" and "anti-biotics"
In other words, despite warning's I've still been overdoing it
As an added bonus yesterday and today they've cut the power off from 8:30 'til 3, so I've been trying to sit with my feet up without any telly, radio, computer or even a book to read as we've got the blinds down to keep the heat out and I can't read in the dark
Although I suppose I could have taken a book out in the garden under a tree, if I didn't mind the flies and mosquitoes that is
Anyway, power's back, so I'm off to my comfy chair. Toodle pip

Sounds real nasty, Steve - hope it improves soon. Reckon you might need to listen and get as much rest as possible.

Re: The stupidity of Britain
Back again this afternoon, it's leaked a little bit again. The nurse wasn't too pleased bu the doctor thinks it looks much better. I dunno myself, I've not really had too close a look. All changed today of course - I remembered my camera
Hmm, I doubt it's the worst anyone's had (not me anyway) but I'll make it a thumbnail so I can't be accused of putting anyone off their supper

Re: The stupidity of Steve Earwig
You didn't read up the thread? Basically it was a broken window that I'd been using it as cold frame but during the hail a few weeks back the wind blew it down and it shattered. I put the shards in bucket and put the bucket in the corner of the back terrace out of the way until I was ready to go down the dump. Last Tuesday I decided to tidy the back terrace, then take a load of stuff down the dump. I moved everything off it, including the bucket, gave it a wash and I was just putting things back when I carelessly walked past the bucket with the glass in, hit my leg on the pointed ends of glass sticking out at an angle and ended up in casualty. Clever huh?
