Extra 20amp feed required for caravan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Extra 20amp feed required for caravan

Post by flyerdave »

Hi

With my old 406 I took a separate lead straight from the battery and created a new caravan supply as the 20amp standard one was not enough to really cool down the fridge when travelling.

With this new (to me) 406 1997 1.9lxdt I am thinking of taking a supply line off the rear window heater (30amp) as an extra supply. Of course this would only draw current when the engine is running via a relay and would only cut in when a separate switch would knock out the heater.

I have some questions.

1. would this cause any problems with the electrics?

2. If answer to 1. is yes is there anywhere else on the backend of the car that i can get a 20amp supply from?

3. if answer is no, does anyone know whereabouts the connector to the heated screen is located so i can link into it?

thanks.

I dont know where the heated screen wire is but the bootlight wire if you take the +ve off it and then get the negative from the cars body ie ground it you should have a permanent 12v supply but i just am not sure if its enough amps

Does anyone know where the connection to the rear heated windscreen is?

I just don't want to have to rip the backend apart.

thanks

Hi,
As this supply will only be available when the heated screen is on, and you will need to fit extra relays and switches, I think your original feed from the battery is the best option.
