Try disconnecting the battery for a while, then reconnect it while trying not to lift the terminals once they touch
Is the replacement battery good? A dud battery can also cause that

If the battery is good but goes flat whilst in the car, the problem could be your alternator?

I've *driven* a 406 on just the starter motor for miles in the past. If a few attempts to start the car results in it being flat, then the battery has broken down internally and needs replacingsnakie wrote:highlander wrote:If the battery is good but goes flat whilst in the car, the problem could be your alternator?

I think snakie's saying his battery is OK, cranking the engine fast enough, but it's not attempting to start.
Didn't somebody buy a really cheap 2.1 with a similar issue about 6-9 months back? IIRC it turned out to be a very minor problem and he then sold it on......
with my advacing years, I just can't remember the details - perhaps one of you youngsters can?

Wish I could find the thread for you. This one might help, or maybe this one, but they're not the thread I was really after.
I remember a post relating to something easy, (like swapping a relay), but damned if I can remember, or find it

You can always get rid of the stop solenoid to bypass the immobiliser thing entirely (or was that a 1.9TD only)?
