I remember driving to England and back thinking that it wasn't so much that it wouldn't start or that it would conk out halfway down the M6 that worried me, but some random electrical fault.
The radio wouldn't work on that trip, which is what put me on edge.

I beg to differ CJ. If I were rolling in money then yes I would be annoyed about that loose bit of trim (ooer!) however at this moment in time all that concerns me is having a running car. I certainly don't expect any more from a sub £1000 vehicle.

Wait until you have kids Alex, then you really won't give a sh1t about a cars foibles; there are far more important things to worry about. I bought my first 406 when our second son was born, the tubby two years ago and they have both been brilliant cars. Bit tatty around the edges but mechanically sound. That's good enough for me :)

All good points, Matt. However, I am certainly not rolling around in money but still little things going wrong in my car annoy me :|

Yeah, can't wait for kids! The house will be even messier than it is now (can't really imagine that) and car shredded to pieces by little hands

Funny you should say that, my bro's had a Bora from new (don't ask me why), it has a black leather interior. Just after he got it my nephew managed to put a sun cream hand print on the passenger seat and it's there for good, nothing (other than staining I guess) will shift it.

He also managed to put a big scratch down the side with his bicycle when it was about a year old

Well it's funny you should say THAT too because we have a friend with a Mondeo (Metallic Gold) approx yr 2000 W Reg? and the paintwork is covered in 'stains' the finish is flat and dull on these patches and the culprit was Sun Cream on the kids hands :o honestly the paintwork is feckered as is the interior which had been kicked and smashed up by the kids

Kids wreck cars!

My kids are spot on with cars to be fair and keep well away. They are NOT NOT NOT allowed near my car with any type of food at all

Her indoors car is another matter and try as I may it still ends up looking like a mobile MacDonalds outlet after two weeks

Hi all.

I think that if you spend enough time on the interweb and talk to enough people, as I do, you will never purchase any car, coach, bus or lorry ever built cause you will allways find some one who will tell you not to get that particular make or model. Having been involved with a lot of very different vehicles over the years I am left with the opinion that there is a lot of luck involved with purchasing any vehicle.

Spot on Bussy, I've had 3 x Jap cars which are reported as mega reliable and trouble-free and all 3 of them were troublesome one way or another.

It's a machine at the end of the day with 1000's of parts in fact if you thought about it too much you'd wonder how the car ever managed to start up in the morning :o

cream leather, avoid this at all costs if you have children, i had younger cousins in my car they managed to bring cows shite into it and have since been banned from the car without putting their shoes in the boot, it took ages to clean away the shite, but i bought some stuff called simoniz leather cleaner and did the whole interior and now the cream leather seats in my car are like new

The back seat is really designed for kids. It would be better if there was at least an inch more head room at the back of the sadan, that way you would be able to sit fully upright on the seats without your head scraping the roof. Also it would be good if the rear armrests including the door cards were an inch higher as well.
There is'nt any way you can modifly the the car to those specifications unless your clever enough to redisign the rear seat to sink in an inch more which might solve the problem but might cause other problems. Also the rear map pockets behind the front seats also need to come up at least an inch higher not that i use the pockets for anything anyway. They must have made it that way to really irratate us or me for that matter. Its stupid
