Tyres recommendation

Anybody got a good recommendation, I'm looking for something giving a good price/performance/mileage balance?

Need to replace my two front ones, (again), last set of Goodyear Excellence, (205/60/R15/91V), lasted 9K Don't think there's any alignment or similar issues as they've worn evenly - if anything the appearance suggests over-inflation, but they were kept at 35 psi. I think it's a torque thing, had similar issues on the back of a 200SX some years back.

Problem is, that was before the re-map....

Shirley your tyres are the later 16 inchers?

Your bordering on needing some performance type tyres with all your new found torques but the wheel size might restrict your choice.

I've had some Kumho Ecsta KU31's fitted to her Astra and they have some great reviews for a budget type tyre and I have to say they are very good quality and quiet running. In fact these'd be the ones I'd go for myself.

Vredesteins seem to get good reviews. I always thought the NCT5's suited the 406 well but that was on my 110 bhp

Michelins Energy are my preferred make , long lasting and still grip the road properly.
Dunlop grip the road but wear v.quickly

on previous cars i have used Falken ZE19 something. they are cheap (mid range i spose you'd call it) and grip well in wet and dry.

i always thought Nankangs were to be avoided, but i must say my other half has a set of 4 on her st170 so i got some for the front of my 406 and they are very good. nice pattern too, and apparently they are recommended by ford now. my front cost 70 quid for two off ebay plus another 20 quid for fitting at my local friendly tyre place.

I had some Nangkangs on my Honda Integra and they were ok but wear very quickly (soft).

I took meself down to Taj Tyres and said "cor blimey guv'nor, what've you get that'll get me through me MOT?"

And lo, the chap did charge me 20 quid a corner for part-worns, and I did leave happy for me MOT was pass-ed.

I find to cover all instances (wet, dry, snow and ice) your better off with a different tyre on every corner. That way you always have traction with at least one wheel Currently my favourite tyre is the Hankook which I have on the rear drivers side

Joking aside I've always found Continentals to be very good in all conditions, although they do tend to wear VERY quickly. My other favourite tyre was the Firenza's I had on my 405. They were budget tyres but provided super grip on a dry road and were pretty capable in the wet aswell.
