air bag warning light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Did you move one of the front seats? The usual culprits are the connectors under the front of the seats.

A damn good wiggle of all the connectors under each seat will sort it, if you want to be a perfectionist about it you can just move one then turn the key and wait to see if it self extinguishes the light, if like most of us you're not that bothered you just want the light out give em all a good shoving about and it should sort itself out.

snip the red connectors out, throw them in the bin, and replace them with a terminal block, that solves it for good

the tape would work on cars with no mfd, or buzzer. My d9 had that light on the cluster then the MFD read AIR BAG FAULT and a buzzer kept sounding to remind me of the fact, so its definatley worth sorting it out, either by wriggling the connectors back into place or replacing them

I'm also a member on the multipla forum as my other half owns one and sure enough those connectors are a common fault on those as well. Does any car manufacturer use decent connectors for those cables ?

Btw the recommended fix for the ugly bug is to use a terminal block as well

on the topic of the multipla, can you explain why the door handles hook a bit outwards, i remember walking up a street one day and the handle caught my jacket and ripped the pocket off, is there a reason for the odd shape of door handle?

I was going to suggest it's so their owners can open the doors with something other than a hand but then I saw I'd be offending Gumby

No. There's not really anything foolproof, the minute signal levels are adversely affected by any change in circuit resistance. Tiny amounts of oxide film on the contacts is enough to give your fault. (The metals oxidise readily in the humid atmoshere inside your car).

I favour cutting them off, fit bootlace ferrules / terminal blocks, job done forever. 8)

Don't worry about offending me with multipla comments, even the owners club run the 'ugly bug ball'. Considering the size and weight of the good ladies 1.9td box on wheels it leaves my poor old pug in it's dust :(

As for the door handles sticking out I'm pretty sure if you caught the door handle you must have winded yourself on the enormous elephant ears it has for mirrors ! :cheesy:

If you have somewhere to park one (out of sight) they make a handy second car (406 being the 1st choice of course) they go well, 6 full size seats, take the back seats out and you can fit your house in there and due to the erm.....'styling'.....(not sure if thats really the right word but you know what I mean) they're cheap to buy.
