Motoring History - Britain's first road fatality

Post by swiss »

Linky
The car's maximum speed, the inquest heard, was 8mph but its speed had been deliberately limited.

[EDIT] BTW, don't just snigger at the slow old museum pieces, read all the way to the end, i.e. the bit about the change in laws and what the judge concluded. Pretty sombre stuff.

now if he had the 90 HDI in mind i think the new speed limit was a tad optimistic,
but for you Benzine powered chaps i think it most necessary to limit your top speed and curtail your tomfoolery.

"he hoped it would be the last of its type" sadly not, he should have come over here and had a look, the death rate is three and a half times higher than the UK and that's more to do with the "acceptable culture" of driving styles than the type of vehicles they drive here.

still 550,000 since then to now, what do you think the death rate would be if we had 31 million horses on the UK's roads instead of cars?

Count yourself lucky, there's nothing like the dreaded *bong* to inspire feelings of panic and give you a trembling sensation in the wallet area.

Speaking of large lumps of meat on legs, guess where we were a couple of weeks back.
