Shell Fuelsaver - here we don't go again?

Anybody using Shell Fuelsaver / Fuesaver Diesel?

Is this a godsend, or history repeating itself?

My car seems quite happy on Shell Fuelsaver petrol. I seem to be getting slightly better mileage out of it so far. I've got a trip from Aberdeen to York and back next Friday.

I remember that Shell problem very well, nowadays when I see ads for so-called wonder fuels I just laugh, will they never learn?
I remember another situation where oxygen sensors were being destroyed, can't just remember exactly what happened, I think it was a contaminated batch of fuel.

The solution they came up with was focused on improving the lubrication of the piston rings. The new unleaded formula contains a lubrication agent that coats the top of the pistons when fuel is injected into the cylinders, reducing friction and thus improving combustion efficiency

Have you read the comments from all the diesel drivers saying their engines sound rough and sluggish after a tank full of this new stuff? all sounds bad to me.......

The contaminated fuel was a batch of supermarket fuel that contained silicon. Destroyed sensors.

No Shell garages in NI anymore. Used to work for them (as a cashier in the petrol station!) back when "Optimax" was high octane fuel instead of laser eye surgery.

Would be very cynical of any fuel that can claim MPG increases.

Why? I've done plenty of testing (XU10J2TE and ES9J4) and found a HUGE difference in economy returned between the brand leaders and supermarket crap

Optimax has been proven to improve performance in better performing cars, so why can't a fuel take things the other way?

I got noticeably better mileage from normal Shell petrol (i.e. the stuff they've just replaced with this new FuelSave) than I ever did out of Esso - and interestingly, the car feels slightly smoother and the throttle seems more responsive (the car pulls better from a standing start).

Slightly worse performance with Shell V-Power - but it's a performance fuel and mine is not a performance car.

Gleaner seems to be on-par with Esso - it's fuel, and it doesn't wreck the engine, but it's nothing to write home about.

I did take it past an ASDA filling station once, but I wasn't watching what mileage their stuff gave me.

It's definitely engine-dependent. I got better mileage on Esso fuel out of my old 1.2 Clio. Your mileage may vary.

i 'm using it in my 407 2.0 hdi and i'm getting slightly better mpg, but havnt noticed any change in engine noise,either on tickover or at speed.
i dont go out of my way to get it,its just its closest and cheapest is all
