Whilst driving home the other night I came across this lying in the road:


Always the opportunist, I stopped and picked it up (to make sure nobody else hit it and damaged their car of course)

Now I'm not one for fake 'bling' on a car but I reckoned it might look quite tasty on the 406. After some measuring I decided it would fit without having to chop a bigger hole in the bumper. So with the help of a golden retriever it was off to the workshop for some spanners and a grinder



I decided to have some fun without a backbox at this point (note- my car is de-cat'd aswell):

I had to cut off the curvy piece of the tailpipe so that the new tip would sit square in the bumper and not look silly.





The tip is a bit scruffy having bounced about the road but all in all I think it's a pretty good addition, especially as it was free

Well the attachment screws were screwed in the full way and obviously that wasnt enough to hold it on, so it definately came off something with a tiny exhaust.

Actually do feel a wee bit bad now, it probably cost a good £15. But I figure its like roadkill, if you can cook it, its yours

...and now he may well know where it's gone.

I reckon a 406 will be an unlikely place to look for uber sporty merchandise like this

great job there, i was looking a nice tip for the end of my exhaust it looks tidy, its hard to beat a freebie and stuff on the side of the road, or washed up on a beach is some of the best stuff to come across, my shed is full with wheel trims i have found on the side of the road. Does you car constantly make that loud noise with the end on it, does it not get a bit tiring, my exhaust was completely off when i was changing it, and i wasnt looked at very nicely by other motorists or pedestrians it was embarasing more than anything, but a nice noise inside a garage for some echo

Actually if you look at some of the very late 53/04 reg 406 HDi's they all had a chrome tail pipe trim with a hole underneath for the downward-pointing existing tip to blow through looks kinda weird if you look closely and realise what they've done but hey ho.

Peugeot really did make a half-arsed bargain basement effort with the run-out models - I wouldn't say know to a low mileage 04 plate SE estate though

My old N/A XUD Citroen ZX had a cracking Chrome tip on the standard exhaust. (No boy racer owner previously, was my uncle)

Was a bit of a disappointment to see the 406 rusty downward pointing pipe.

Mine has the fake chrome bit with the hole in the bottom where the exhaust actually is, I thought it was some sort of tacky bolt-on goody and was preparing to get the hacksaw out until I was told on here it was standard.

No, with the backbox on my car doesn't really differ much from a standard system. It sounds a bit beefier and the turbo whistle is more apparent but not enough to attract attention. In the cabin its as quiet as standard. I cover quite a lot of miles, have been doing 70mile round trips to Jordanstown 4 times a week since I got it, a noisey exhaust would have been unbearable (worse than Pete Snodden)

Mondeo STTDCIs are like this. They have a crome tailpipe but if you look closley there blocked off at the other end and the real tailpipe goes to the floor behind the chrome piece. Freelanders also have this too

Your free exhaust tip (courtesy of the local chav) looks a lot like mine; I think it's a nice exhaust and it complements the car well. A lucky find

Yours is the proper job The tips are very similar, they make the cars look a bit more purposeful at the rear

Thats why you want the ST220 ;) My Old Man had two before the T5 and my god there a nice car. From the moment you get into the recaro's to the moment you switch off the engine is an experience in itself. Ok not the fastest thing on the road but it had something about it, a poise, something you couldn't quite put your finger on... Oh and one awesome V6 Growl
