Special Build?
Didn't even know they made these, but safe to say this guy should get a fairly decent price for it:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-PEUGEOT-406- ... mobiles_UK
The only thing I can think of is that it was a special order. There was an SRi estate in Autotrader a few weeks ago with a V6 engine in it & the seller said that now & then Peugeot would build special order vehicles.
All I know is - I want it!

Re: Special Build?
It's not a special - least I don't think so. I reckon it started life as a GLX HDi 136, (as it doesn't have cruise), but someone's put half leather seats from an SE in it, painted the 'woody' bits, put some aftermarket chrome rings round the dials etc.
No mention of DPF system either.
Get yourself a genuine GTX/Exec/SE - much nicer IMHO

Re: Special Build?
It's not a home-upgrade. It's a genuine SRi. Put the reg no in on confused.com for an insurance quote & it comes up as SRi (136) 2.2 HDi.

Might have a bid on it. If I win it, is there any chance of making a remap pilgrimage to Doggyville & I'll make a contribution to the Doggy Society?

There's no such thing as a V6 SRIwaue1978 wrote:There was an SRi estate in Autotrader a few weeks ago with a V6 engine in it & the seller said that now & then Peugeot would build special order vehicles.!
Likewise I strongly suspect this is a HDI136 (mid-range spec as standard) that's been given the interior of the 2.2 petrol SRI. A low mileage example at that - those seats look like they've done maybe 50k max. It's obvious it's been played about with somewhat, with the aftermarket towbar, reverse parking sensors, funny dash-mounted thing. I'm also moderately sure D9 SRIs came with satnav as standard, which this HDI doesn't have. I reckon he (or a previous owner) has just got a set of seats, cards, trim and cd player off ebay. I'm not even sure those alloys came on the SRI although I'm no expert in wheels
The only way to tell for sure though is by looking the car up by VIN.
It's not as bad as this one though: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peugeot-406-2-0-S ... mobiles_UK which is a HDI90 in poverty spec they've decided to call an SRI for some reason
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Check out both sides of the car, see if you can spot the difference (Im not talking about the fuel filler cap)mjb wrote:It's not as bad as this one though: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peugeot-406-2-0-S ... mobiles_UK which is a HDI90 in poverty spec they've decided to call an SRI for some reason

Guess that definitively ends THAT argument then!

Re: Special Build?
Always happy to help where I can, but there are two potential snags.....waue1978 wrote:Might have a bid on it. If I win it, is there any chance of making a remap pilgrimage to Doggyville & I'll make a contribution to the Doggy Society?
1). Don't buy a 2.2 HDi unless you know & understand the FAP issue, (nowadays it's simple / cheap to resolve, but make sure you know what you're doing first).
2). The remap files don't work on all DW12's - early 51 plate cars can be a problem, so I think a 'Y' plate is unlikely to accept it. Have been used succesfully on some 51 / 02 / 52 & 03 cars, may work on others. (On the coop forum, they reckon cars with lift-for-reverse 'boxes are OK).
Also be aware there are 4 permutations of file: 136 bhp with FAP, 136 bhp no FAP, 180 bhp with FAP, 180 bhp no FAP. I'm running the 180 no-FAP file, which is awesome.

If you get one of these cars, you must do things in this order or risk expensive problems:
1) Download no-FAP file and verify your car works OK with it.
2) Restore a 'with FAP' file of either state of tune.
3) Physically remove the FAP, (& CAT if you're so inclined).
4) Download no-FAP file within a week or two of step 3)
5) If necessary, clear any faults with PP2000
6) Upset as many Audi drivers as possible, while chuckling about the money you're saving in increased mpg.

Re: Special Build?
That saloon has been on Autotrader for a few weeks now, but how do you explain the fact that the Estates reg number brings up SRi 2.2 HDi on the insurance?

Re: Special Build?
Doggy - got a little experience with the 2.2 & FAP from the C5 we did a DIY clean & fill on a few years ago. Cracking engine, but at the time it was really a dealer only fix job. If I could I'd much rather run without the FAP than with.

Re: Special Build?
Ended up as the high bidder, but didn't meet reserve. Got 2nd chance offer this morning though. Pretty much forgot about it when my bid didn't hit reserve, but now I really am wondering whether to go for it. It's a bloody long way (Blackburn & I'm in Andover) but would probably only cost £100-150 to get it delivered. He reckons the FAP should be clear as he did lots of motorway work, but at 87k I reckon it's due for going so probably budget on £300 to get that removed & remapped. Not too sure about the temp guage & rev counter not working though as he said clocks were replaced due to an unknown electrical fault & these didn't work before or after the clock change so makes me wonder what kind of electrical fault there is with it.
But the thought of getting hold of it & sticking my extra boot seats in it to make a 2.2 SRi Family with a potential 150bhp after deFAPping is so bloody tempting. What does anyone think?
