Dreaded Electrics! Radio comes on, on its own

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Well th offending and rather heavily soaked carpet has been removed. The wires were sat in a large puddle of water. I have mopped out the inside and tried to dry off the wires as best as i can.

The carpet will need to be left to dry for several days me thinks it was like picking a sponge up out of the bath!!

Will post some pictures of the damage i have done!

Now the water has caused some issues with the electrics and poss the BSI.

The immob light wont go off so the car wont fire up.

I have found the BSI rest procedure which i would try but 2 problems have emerged on reading how to do it.

1 the remote locking doesnt work, hasnt since i bought the car changed batteries still no good.

2 Cant get the electric window on drivers side to work

Any ideas peeps?

Not about the reset, I dread the day I have to do it as it looks about as straight forward as getting a straight answer from a politician :frown: But I would say hold off on that in case the faults the damp has put on confuse the issue even further. You need to sort them connectors out first, check for corrosion, tracks (I reckon even a tiny bit of stray current is likely to cause problems), broken wires etc. Once you know that's ok then you can move on to the other issues. If they're still there...

it does seem to be some corrosion on one of the connections, its the largest one under the carpet.

I am letting it dry out until friday then if still no joy im going to get the RAC to recover to my mates garage, sadly my knowledge of cars is next to zero and prob best i let some who knows what they are doing solve it!!
