Night time pics of the additions

Post by FarmerPug »

Finally the silver interior bits, chrome handles and white dials have arrived. The silver parts were in absolute crap condition, and i just decided to go to halfords and spray all instead of waiting again for more silver parts, and despite ballsing up the painting the first time due to dust in my shed, a good clean out of the shed and sanding the parts down again sorted this problem out, alls painted dust and drip free, bar the speedo surround and it will be dry in the morning. anyhow heres some pictures i took with a proper camera, its of the car at night which looks nice in the executive especially the door lights shining on the seats:

The chrome door handles look nice and i think they work well with the cream interior:

Here was the dash before putting in the silver, i have also added in the clarion cd player, its not unlocked yet but it seems to play cds, pick up fm, and bleep loud:

the spray is some paint out of halfords, its a rover metalic silver or something to that effect but it seems to be the best match to what peugeot used for the silver, and when it dries it leaves the same texture.
Heres the new speedometer dials, they have the chrome rings which look great at night because the needles point a precise dot of light making it easier to see the speed:

Thats all for now, when the paint for the speedo surround dries ill show pictures of it in place, i was suprised at how good the paint turned out, but an episode of wheeler dealers with the 205 gti was handy when ed explained the proper way to use spray paint.

Very nice, I like the blue pointy end on the needles.

One thing that has sickened me to see, and I don't know how you dare show this kinda thing on a public forum, is a Duran Duran CD

Now, see how yon window switches and what not glow with an orange light? I never liked the orangeness. Yes, it stops your retinas frying but it just always seemed a bit... average to me, I suppose.

While I was fiddling about with the interior of my former car, I popped off the rear window heater switch and had a look inside. It seemed to me that a small oval window had been cut from the switch and an orangey-yellow filter jammed in there somehow. This bore the white heather icon on the front and if you got the light at a steep angle, you could see the oval shape in the otherwise smooth plastic.

The point of all this is does anyone know how you'd go about substituting the orangeness for a more sexeh colour?

I guess you could remove the lens and either replace it with something of a different colour or leave it out and get a coloured LED.

i have never minded the orangeness of the buttons, at least they actually light up, but now you say the prospect of changing them to something different would be nice, but the vw blue wouldnt really suit these sort of buttons, and now that i think about it what would apart from clear white. The other issue would be how much things would need changed, that would be every switch in the car would need to be converted to that colour for consistency and in things like the climate control it would be fiddly, on the radio there is orange caps over the leds and finding replacement ones might be hard, but anyhow ive had a play on photoshop and changed the colour to blue:

excuse the questionable image editing, anyhow is that better than orange?
ill get the pictures of the painted speedo surround up soon, just im rebuilding my phone which is also my only camera at the moment and waiting for a new slider.

I used to mould heater control knobs (for the vauxhall aguila  ) and on those at least the orange filter, known as a "jewel", is overmoulded into the knob. I.e. the shaft, light pipe and jewel are all moulded separately and then assembled together and placed into the mould tool for the knob, then the black plastic is moulded around them. The upshot is that you can't take the orange bit out without destroying the black bit surrounding it... :(

How much innuendo can you get out of that post then???

Won't even try - my money's on puggy......

I can't help but think that if they were blue in the first place, someone would be turning them orange.
