heater blower

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

heater blower

Post by Archangel »

I am trying to replace the above , have removed glovebox lid (Haynes instructions on how to do this as usual just bloody useless)
need to remove the rest of the glovebox ,have located and undone screws at end of dash by door hinges , there must be another fixing near the centre console . Anyone any ideas where or how to remove ? so I can crack on and replace blower motor . The fascia part of the glovebox needs to be removed so as to be able to access the motor . hoping to upload pics to illustrate this today , but need to do a little editing work first to highlight areas I`m talking about .
I`m taking pics at every stage of job , might be useful as a small guide later ?
pics in order ...........hinge with glovebox in place ,picture of pin in place ,lid removed (2 pics) ,no.5 ...end panel removed

first one a bit blurry ,will replace soon. pics 3 & 4 show part I need to remove .

Thanks in advance......................Archangel

Why are you taking out the glove box?
You remove the heater blower from underneath, 3 screws if I remember.

besides I also want to see how to access the heater matrix as I believe it can be reached from same area .This is because I had one go in 306 which was basically the same engine as in my current 406.
All info gratefully received .

Removing the glovebox doesn't give you any extra room to play with. Just take some pills for the pain and get in under there....

As far as I understand, the heater matrix is not easy to replace on a 406, requiring the removal of the entire dashboard as it's enclosed in the plastic distribution unit in the centre. I've not done this job however... yet...

Never done it on a 406 but on my old Punto the heater matrix packed up, I spoke to my mechanic brother in law and he said to try swapping the inlet and outlet pipes around before anything else. Sure enough whatever had blocked it got flushed out, drained it, filled it and it never missed a beat again.

It won't help if it's leaking.

I'm looking at the parts diagrams but I can't figure out how the matrix fits into the heater box, on my Senator it just slots in the driver's side, you have to move the dash rearwards a couple of inches and then there's enough clearance.

That's what this was about-

See my post on replacing the passenger airbag cover for further info. There is indeed a screw which enters from the inside of the console. How or why anyone though this might be a good idea is quite beyond me. There was no way to get on to it short of dismantling the console altogether, so I simply ripped the bugger out in the end 8)
