Remember to let it cool for a good while before you open the cooling system. Burns suck.

Check for coolant leaks, especially around the bottom hose & thermostat housing. You shouldn't be seeing the low coolant warning light as a general rule!!

We got low water - just gradual leakage over the miles I think, which is not surprising since I have never checked the level in 130,000 miles. I have made a note to check regularly, every 100,000. :cheesy: Regards, Springnuts

Check the radiator for stains as well, as in the early days of a slow rad leak it's the only way to identify a problem

not wishing to hijack the thread but a related question .......... has anyone flushed out the cooling system for a 406 ?? and can you give step by step instruction in case there is something unusual/different for a pug. Last time I did so was on a 1953(?) Ford Anglia 1172cc sidevalve and thats a dead simple system to work on especially with there being rad cap on the rad not an expansion tank .
