buy a 407?

Post by elmtreeandy »

Hi folks, I am finally getting to the stage where I have to give up on my 406, still not getting any power low revs. After two years of prodding and misdiagnosis by Spanish Peugeot "experts" the time has come to cut losses and upgrade. I have just had major spinal surgery and have been told in no uncertain terms not to even think about crawling under a car for at least a year. What I would like is a bit of advice on the 407, looking around year 2005 model. Are they reliable, have they quirky faults similar to the 406? Once I figure out how to legally scrap a car in Spain the 406 is going the journey. Any help and advice is always welcome. Thanks, Andrew

Hi Andy, sorry about your back :( We've talked about the 407 many times so it might be worth a search, off the top of my head the common ones are the bottom balljoints failing and the dipstick on the 1.6HDi breaks and drops into the sump. Plus the usual HDi foibles of course. Have a squint on Honest John (but bear in mind according to HJ it's a miracle if the 406 makes it 100 meters down the road without exploding  )
