Rev Counter & Temp Guage
Got a chance of a rare car, but it comes with a problem. It's an SRi 2.2HDi, but the temperature guage & rev counter aren't working. Could assume that replacement clocks would solve the problem were it not for the fact that they were already replaced & they still don't work. Also, this issue with mileage adding on replacement clocks - if the original clocks were put back in to the car, would the mileage revert to what it should be or does the car just keep on adding them up?

Re: Rev Counter & Temp Guage
you will probably have to take it to somewhere to get the mileage corrected

Re: Rev Counter & Temp Guage
I believe what happens is this. A copy of the mileage value, stored in the clocks, is also held in the BSI. If a new clock is fitted, it then assumes the value from the BSI. Anyone sensible would have copied it across, but following a long tradition of Gallic software engineering, some genius decided to add it to the number in the clock, (which is fine is this is zero or thereabouts, but not so hot if it's a 2nd hand setup).
One car I nearly bought had a worse problem, (probably poor connections or similar on the dash). Owner parked it one night with 62k on the clock, next morning it was 240k! This is not the only reported incident of this kind, in another case on a v6 petrol, the dealer tech put it down to incorrect spark plugs.
I was told, 'mileage correction', may well only work temporarily.

Re: Rev Counter & Temp Guage
Apparently the mileage doesn't correct itself when the originals are put back in either - once the secondhand clocks are fitted, their mileage is added to the BSi too. It's bugging me to do it, but think I'm going to have to give it a miss. The temp guage/rev counter problem sounds like it's in the wiring & that could be a potential dash removal to get fixed & even then there's no guarantee.
It's a real shame as I think if all was working & the mileage was correct it would be worth a few quid in years to come if looked after due to it's rarity.
