Been getting FAP and Anti-Pollution faults all week so decided to have a play today, took off the FAP (bolt positioning isnt the easiest to get to!) and spent quite a while cleaning it out, and by cleaning i mean lump hammer and chisel, ooh and a drill at points! Took quite a while to be fair but finally got it back on and uploaded another map to the car, my god it really flies again now and no faults!!!

Make sure you backup your ECU first just incase, i did my mates 206 last Monday with a file we got off the tinterwebs, i did 3 backups first to check for consistancy, then got my mate to press the write button just incase there were issues!!

It was doing a weird thing on the 206 to be fair, when pressing read it said it had started but the progress bar wasn't moving, it did the read fine all 3 times, then when it came to writing it said erasing ECU then seeming to lock, non moving progress bar again, after 83secs it said 100% it came up with its Italian message meaning turn ignition off for 10 secs and all was fine, just a little worrying for a minute!

Weird thing is it worked fine on the coupe, which is a good thing as i think i might have panicked a bit more!!

Got my cables today! The supplied CD, however, does not have any software except the programming one. Where can I download ECUSafe and the WinOl to check the files are OK?

You don't need Ecusafe, unless you plan on modifying your own file.

What's WinOl?

If you just want to download Nutski's file you shouldn't need anything apart from Galletto. That's all I used to do mine.

(Admittedly, I read the discussion about checksums etc. on the coupe forum and downloaded Arpoon Checksum as they suggested and checked all the files, but everything was OK anyway).

Just make sure you take a backup of your existing ecu file and store a couple of copies securely so you are certain you can put it back.

EcuSafe you only really need to disable the FAP, but as you don't have one your fine!
WinOLS is for actually tuning and adapting map files, i've got it on a XP laptop for 'testing', not a bloody clue where to start with it!!

Ah OK. The goal was to check that the downloaded ECU file from my car is valid, in case nutski's file doesn't work, I'd want to put the original one on. But it will be no good if the downloaded file is corrupt

You can at least download the existing file more than once and compare the checksums via Galletto.

Just noticed something - Nutski's saloon was a 2001. On 2.2's, post 2002 files will not work in an earlier ecu - brings up the immobiliser warning light / car won't start. As both engines use the Bosch EDC15 C2 ecu, it's possible the same issue maight affect 2.0 HDi's.

AFAIK no-one has tried installing an ecu file from an older car in a post 2002 vehicle. I can't see it doing any harm, but it might refuse to work. If it doesn't work. you'll need one from a newer car.

Well, that was interesting. No laxative effects, I am proud to admit!

The good news: the car still works!
The bad news: it's still with the old file

I read the ECU twice and checksummed it and all looked good. The only weird thing was that whilst I was reading the ECU, the engine fans came on at full speed and "AIRBAG FAULT" appeared on the MFD. Still, I soldiered on.

Whilst writing nutski's file, the same AIRBAG FAULT message came up and the fans were at full speed. Hmm... After around 70 secs, the thing told me to switch off the engine for 10 secs and I was done.

Switched the ignition on, everything looked good. Then AIRBAG FAULT came on again. Engine started without trouble but I noticed that the speedo and the rev counter weren't working. Hmmm... no good. So I decided to go for a drive to see if I had any gains, but as soon as my foot touched the accelerator, ENGINE IMMOBILISER FAULT came on - but the car was still running. Went for a drive, and it was clearly obvious that the car was in limp home mode. Annoying, but somehow serene and quiet.

I decided to put the old file back on which went in without problems and everything is fine again (but engine still untuned).
