my 1996 1.9 td has just failed mot because there is 'excessive play in the ball-joint of the offside rear upper suspension arm'
having looked in the haynes for this & for the parts across ebay, the part on ebay is the same as the tracking control arm, which is the only one under there i can see with a ball-joint. but the upper suspension arm in the haynes is listed differently to the tracking control arm.
we have found a little play in the balljoint on the end of the tracking arm when the wheel is rocked
question is this: is the rear upper suspension arm the same as the tracking control arm?

I think you will find this is what you are looking for....viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7376
Re: o/s/r upper suspension arm
yeah, i read that, & thats the bit we think we can feel a bit of play in, but how come the haines calls that the tracking arm, and calls something else the suspension upper arm, but ebay calls them both the same thing??
ARE they the same part?
ARE they the same part?

Mine failed its MOT on this as well
Lots of different names for it, top stabiliser rod etc! The most important thing is that it's the one with the cam adjustment to adjust the rear wheel camber. I would get them from eurocarparts and get the oem ones; the pattern ones are shite and last for about a year
Make sure you note the position of the cam when you dismantle it all, you may need to get the rear wheels aligned to save shoulder wear.
MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE BOTH SIDES!

Re: o/s/r upper suspension arm
thankyou, i'll get right on it. are the swivel bolts & nuts peugeot only parts?
out of curiosity, what is the haynes refering to when it talks about replacement of the upper left & right arms? the one where on the right side you have to cut the bolt out of the way of the subframe...

You can re-use the bolts, I always do! The new rods will come with replacement nuts though.
Here's a photo of it, crappy phone pics
