Over here in crazy land, they turn all the street lights, traffic lights  and crossing lights off at 11pm every night and then up the speed limit by 10kmh everywhere, its utter utter madness but it does mean after a late night teaching in the centre of Warsaw that the drive home instead of being 50 minutes minimum during the day is reduced to about 20 minutes :cheesy:

God help anyone that pulls out in front of my tank now they really will be smashed to pieces by the 2 tonnes tractor doing about 120kmh  but then if they cant hear me and my 300Tdi coming then they probably should be smashed to pieces

I had the bumper off this week for a bit of tart work and can confirm that the front of the Disco is as solid as a rock now and just about as aerodynamic 8)

Its something they used to do in Spain when i lived there too, switching off traffic signals and street lighting away from town centres seems to be a European pastime, maybe the good folk of Welly-town are just being good Europeans

The nearest street light to me here is at least 5 miles away, the next ones after that are about 15miles away. As a bonus, you should see the stars on a clear night!

On closer inspection this morning it appears that the main streets are lit normally but the side streets are kinda dimmed (I hadn't noticed before and thought it was the lights 'warming up' ) so most side streets are bathed in a kinda dim reddish glow (quite romantic) :P

Newcastle-under-Lyme council have been at it for a couple of years now. They switch the street lights on about an hour after darkness, which leads to lots of fun like kids jumping into the road (crossing the central reservation on a bend) coming home from school, when you're doing 40mph and had no chance of seeing them. Scariest driving moment ever, that, beating a 90mph spin and two occurrences of a bonnet smashing into the windscreen at 70mph while overtaking a truck

I'm not talking about a minor road either, this was the town ring road , although this stupid policy seems to affect every road in the town
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
