He means the red saloon on AutoTrader that's advertised as an SRi, but looks more like an L. One wing is a D9 the other is a D8 - spot where the indicator repeaters are located on each side.

Pretty much forgot about it when my bid didn't hit reserve, but now I really am wondering whether to go for it. It's a bloody long way (Blackburn & I'm in Andover) but would probably only cost £100-150 to get it delivered. He reckons the FAP should be clear as he did lots of motorway work, but at 87k I reckon it's due for going so probably budget on £300 to get that removed & remapped. Not too sure about the temp guage & rev counter not working though as he said clocks were replaced due to an unknown electrical fault & these didn't work before or after the clock change so makes me wonder what kind of electrical fault there is with it.
But the thought of getting hold of it & sticking my extra boot seats in it to make a 2.2 SRi Family with a potential 150bhp after deFAPping is so bloody tempting. What does anyone think?
I would look out for a 02-plate or later, that way you can do a DIY de-FAP / remap to 180 bhp for the price of a Galletto lead. I've seen a few of these for under £2k before you haggle. A slightly newer one, perhaps with higher mileage, may not cost you any more in the long run.
If you do go & look at one, watch for error messages 'DIESEL ADDITIVE lOW' or 'UNBLOCK PARTICLE FILTER', filter blocked warning light, or difficulty starting / seller reluctant to turn it off. Any of these are signs of DPF problems, the seller probably knows this, but probably doesn't know there's now an answer. A couple I spoke to offered to drop £500 or more on a (then) £3k car. One I saw was a 2.2, but was being passed off as a 2.0!
Also look out for faulty COMM2000 units - worth another £200 off. In short, they're not easy to sell as people are justifably scared of the potential costs, but your biggest liability is poor diagnosis - one of the guys on the coupe forum got stitched up for the usual DPF / additive swindle at about £700, that didn't cure it, so next step was a turbo at over a grand, (which didn't cure it either). Finally solved by swapping the £7 vacuum reservoir!
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a brilliant car and there are few things I would swap mine for. Now the the FAP issue has been solved I reckon it's well worth a go, particularly if its reputation gets you a real bargain.

I want those door cards and a sedan SRI interior. Alas, we never got the SRI here
Did the L/LX ever have the chrome strips - or is that an addition on the red car?

Re: Special Build?
As this one's already in limp mode, it should go for a song.
If the ad's genuine & it has a new FAP / additive anyone with PP2000 shouild be able to reset it & get it going OK in the short /medium term, but be aware that any engine management problem will give the ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT, so it could have a different problem.
I've got a no-FAP file for a 51plate car, that would probably let you de-FAP this one, but at standard power output.
If you buy it & want any help, let me know.
Good luck.

Re: Special Build?
Thought you couldn't do the early ones? Or is it just the 180bhp that won't work on the older ones?

Re: Special Build?
The 'existing' 180bhp file will only work with 2002-on cars. I have a copy of a 'standard no-Fap' map for a 51-plate, which will probably work on older cars, though this is not proven.waue1978 wrote:Thought you couldn't do the early ones? Or is it just the 180bhp that won't work on the older ones?
It is possible to modify any ecu file to 'no-FAP' using ECUsafe. I don't have this facility as yet, but I know others have had this done at little or no cost.
The only way I know of to get a '180bhp no-FAP' file for an early car would be to pay a mapping company to do it. Typically about £300

Probably got it for half that

Driver seat edge looks very tatty for 93k, (though not being a coupe owner I don't know if it's relatively 'normal').
Looks like a set of Comm2000 stalks, so I guess this is the later version that'll accept the 180 bhp file, probably

The rest of the leather looks about right, so I'd guess the guy's just been wearing a sandpaper jacket...
Wouldn't touch for that price though...

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: Special Build?
My gut feeling was 1700, but even so, I don't fancy swapping my 406 with (mostly) known problems for one I'm unfamiliar with.

Perhaps he can't bring himself to sell it.
The Barnsley Chop is now £432 - any guesses how much it makes?
I'm betting on about £ 950

The other one made £1200, but had an undiagnosed electrical problem which meant that it had no temp guage or rev counter. I reckon this one will hit £12-1300.
