as title really, just wondering as its the 1st time ive come across this on a air filter,
the black sponge, ??

I think that's what the jenuwine article looks like. Either that or it's for dusty climates. Mine had one like that when I got it.

i went to a parts place and they had 2 filters listed for the 406 when i loked at them the black sponge thing was the only diffrence.i didnt buy the one with the sponge as i thought it might restrict the air to much.

If your that bothered by airflow do what I did...
Although you probably need to cover more of the filter.

My air filter's like that one and I can get enough air through it......
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6 -speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The black sponge one is for the HDi, but it doesn't really matter, you can use either.

No, won't restrict airflow, the better quality ones have a felt covering.
The oil filter will be fine, but the fuel filter for the XUD should have a "top hat" on it, the HDi 90 has a straight through, small diameter hole in both ends, the 110 has a large hole in one end and another in the other end with a rubber seal at one end.

the fuel filter looks the same as ive changed it many times before,
so should be ok , will service it all saturday,
