Airbag Light Back

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Remember who told you first. :supafrisk:
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Steve - I thought that would initiate a waggy finger :cheesy:
If a digital multimeter is used on a high resistance range there is no way that the current is sufficent to trigger an airbag - and I have proven it.
The ecu also sends a current through each airbag on self test, that is how it knows they are still connected.
There are two main reasons for an airbag fault.
1 An open circuit on any airbag loop, ie crappy connector.
2 The ecu not communicating with the bsi because it has no power or the data link is broken.

I didnt think it would be too long before vosa caught up with modern technology on the mot, aren't these quangos gonna be for the chop under this goverment ?

Fairy nuff, just so long as we're clear 'cos this is a public forum and I wouldn't like anyone to get hurt. At least, not without putting it on YouTube anyway :cheesy:

The main part of the article relates to standardising the annual test across the EU, so whilst it might be different now, by 2012 it won't be

406 - there is another connector the same as the ones under the seat, it is under the center console and goes either to the passenger or drivers air bag.
I took a pic today before it went back together. I would upload it only I am getting this message: Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached. :(
The other weak link is the squib thingy behind the drivers airbag, this can go open circuit and cause an error.
Is yours definately a com2000? as there is a scrappie just down the road with a pre com2000 ecu still intact.

indeed its a com2000, multiplexed car, but i think you can post direct links from photobucket if the img code doesnt work, but i think theres enough info at the moment thanks to all, once i get the car plugged into a fault code reader hopefully more will be revealed and i hope the person with the yoke can turn off the light as i was told.
